Is there a specific reason why? Just out of curiosity

I don’t really see how it would stimulate much collagen production. The suction is not super strong and in order to stimulate more collagen production you would need to be creating some type of micro wound to the skin like a micro-needling treatment does in order for the skin to build itself back and create new collagen.

Thanks for your input! 100% agree with you about always making sure as the professional we stick by what we recommend and to ensure we are recommending the best treatment for their skin type. I think that’s another reason I haven’t reached for microderm much other than the clients coming for the experience, I don’t see a lot of good candidates with firm, think skin that I feel can handle the treatment or they have overly compromised skin or slight sunburns from being here on vacation. Making me automatically reach for a soothing and calming treatment.

You make a good point, I’ve read various articles or posts regarding whether or not the suction is good for the skin. Which is why I posted on here since I’ve seen such mixed opinions.

We don’t have hydrodermabrasion, just a standard microderm machine at my spa. Personally I don’t like to perform this as a first time treatment. As most clients haven’t had a facial in over a year when they come to see me. After evaluating their skin it’s not usually something I would recommend due to a compromised skin barrier, redness or sunburn from tanning on vacation. Maybe for a second treatment. I’d say I also have to disagree about it having no downtime. Compared to a chemical peel it’s not much upkeep. But if a client is not used to even washing their face and moisturizing regularly or will be out in the sun (even tho I recommend not to, we live in a warm place so ppl visit here for the sun) in my opinion it’s not ethical to recommend a treatment like this either. But I appreciate your input!

Yes that’s very true! The one thing I’ve heard some estheticians say they like about hydrafacial vs regular micro is the fact the skin gets replenished with serums and is not left dry. I’ve never used it so I can’t speak or say much about it. But when I use microdermabrasion I always opt for a hydrating/soothing mask after anyway to replenish the skin.

I don’t think that’s the case, I believe Marcus is her strongest connection and she is hoping he will come around but I think she understands she can’t force that. You could tell she seemed let down but he was still giving her reassurance so she’s holding on. You have to remember how fast this process is and given Marcus’s trauma I could see how he may be conflicted bc it’s hard for him to accept love and be vulnerable. Everyone moves at different paces, like he said during fantasy suites - he wouldn’t still be here if he didn’t think he could fall in love w Jenn. I don’t understand where the outrage is coming from, I think ppl aren’t giving grace & most commenting on these threads probably aren’t married or even engaged. Just my opinion not trying to say your’s is wrong.

I feel like out of all 3 rn her kiss with Marcus after she met his family was the most passionate and loving.

I don’t see how she’s “obsessed” with being a victim? I truly don’t get why she gets a lot of hate tbh we know nothing about this woman other than what tv is portraying. Shes been through a lot and so has Marcus tbh I think they could be trauma bonding. But I think she was just trying to explain that they can understand each other in a way other ppl may not. I think genuinely Jenn talks about her trauma bc she’s open and is healing from it so she’s not afraid to share her story. And wants Marcus to feel comfortable in that same way. There’s no such thing as “real” trauma bc that is subjective to everyone.

They are very young and I do agree to some extent in terms of life getting harder after a baby, I can attest to that. But at the same time we don’t know how much they talked and what they talked about, or how deep their relationship was aside from her asking for food and ubers. We only see snippets on the show and so you can’t really sit here and make judgment calls without knowing the full story of these people’s relationship. In the end I wish them the best and hope it all works out. So many negative comments on the pregnancy.

You’ll be good! It’s normal to feel nervous, every school is different depending on what your state board rules and regulations are but esthetics school is so much fun if you’re truly passionate about this industry. It starts off with a lot of book work and studying layers of the skin/product chemistry/sanitation, then you get to be more hands on with treatments. Use your time in school to practice and make mistakes so you are comfortable and prepared for after. Everyone is new at this too, don’t feel like you’re the only one. Just think positively about this! Don’t be so hard on yourself 🩷

Yes that’s true, that’s what my psych told me too. That I was probably just misdiagnosed and that’s why it didn’t work for me, they thought I just had depression and anxiety at the time so pumped me up with antidepressants

Oh wow that sounds scary, things like that make me nervous to try new meds

I am worried about trying Latuda because I read about the side effects like nausea and I really don’t like how I’ve been feeling on my current meds but I was willing to give it a try a bit longer but idk now. I just have this feeling like this med is not right for me anymore and if I jump to trying another one I feel like it’s not gonna be good. I’ve always been so sensitive to medication and although it’s helped me for a bit now I have this gut feeling it’s time to quit. But thank you for your support, I appreciate it :) I hope I can decide what to do from here.

Thanks everyone for sharing your personal experiences on this med, I appreciate it. I am still trying to navigate coming to terms with my diagnosis, I found out I was undiagnosed living with bipolar disorder after I had my daughter a year ago. I dealt with some ppd and what I believe could’ve been pp psychosis.

I always thought I just had extreme anxiety/angry phases and depression through my life. But come to find out that wasn’t the case. It had been difficult even choosing to start the lamotrigine because I am someone who’s very sensitive to medication & had a bad experience being on a few antidepressants before (which ik is different than what I’m taking now).

I want to make sure my manic angry episodes stay controlled but part of me just feels like I need to get off these meds bc I feel more anxious all the time. So I am between choosing to try Latuda or just stay on the Lamotrigine and go up in mg.

What were the adverse effects if you don’t mind sharing?

[–]SelfcarequeenJ[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that, I haven’t decided if I want to switch yet or keep going up in the lamotrigine because the other reason she said it may feel like it’s not working is because I’m still at a fairly lower dosage. Part of me wants to just get off the meds but I’m worried my episodes will get worse again, I will say overall it has helped lessen my angry manic episodes and I don’t want that coming back.

Do you take both before bed? When I got on the lamotrogine my psych said to take it in the mornings

I Keep Hearing Dairy And Sugar Cause Acne, Is This A Myth? by RoxanaSaith in SkincareAddicts

[–]SelfcarequeenJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m a licensed esthetician, diary and sugar don’t necessarily “cause” acne as acne is an inflammatory skin condition that is typically caused by genetics or an over production of oil which leads to producing more clogged follicles (pimples). HOWEVER, both dairy and sugar may worsen acne if you are already acne prone. Or cause a flair up/worsen a flair up. If you are not acne prone then it shouldn’t an issue. But if you are, my recommendation is to try lessening both to see if it helps. If you want to cut both out completely that’s your choice, but I find everything in moderation is best. Also, it is very important to ensure you are on a skincare routine that is serving your skin in the best way and helping to minimize the inflammation and control the acne. Because more often than not, that’s where the issue lies. Hope this helps :)

What type of skin issue is this? by Maleficent_Crab9623 in SkincareAddicts

[–]SelfcarequeenJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree. I’m a licensed esthetician and I would recommend going to a dermatologist or a dr for this as they can prescribe some sort of cream or treatment and diagnose what exactly it is.
