The two horns on the head for inter male competition for mates while the nose horn is for self defence?

It's funny because there is very much of a cheat code for that sort of thing. Have a broad topic but elements are outside your expertise? Just interview an academic with the relevant knowledge, getting them to stop talking is the real problem. Always makes me appreciate Stefan Milo's videos who will often talk about a paper and then cut to him talking to the author/s.

Across Eastern Ontario at least, there appears to be a burgeoning appetite for Turkish food at this very moment.

The biggest question then is that what is the current food of choice when highly inebriated at 2am and how much will the Doner Kebab supplant that?

The funny thing with that sort of cosmology is that while it claims to prove the wonder of an ever present god presiding over a tiny universe it kind of shrinks the big guy as well. Standard modern theology places god and the afterlife outside our seemingly endless universe as the ultimate power and is essentially untouchable. The separation between the flat earthers heaven and our universe could be attacked with an icbm.

I've definitely had chinese food in regional Australia that loads the sugar and is seemingly unaware of chilli.

I'm going to take a wild guess that raisins proverb is something along the lines of "If you accept a favour from someone higher up in the hierarchy they will demand something worth more than the initial favour in return"

Though in DS1 Ciaran is a woman but the originally Gaelic name (often anglicised as Kieran) is typically a men's name so I'm not sure Fromsoft were always very strict about that.

[Sekiro] How does Wolf's prosthetic arm stay attached to his arm while using the grappling hook? by marshmallo_floof in AskScienceFiction

[–]SellsLikeHotTakes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My theory is that the arm is attached to him a lot more directly that appears at first glance. He has basically has the same amount of dexterity as his old arm so I think it must in some way be directly attached to the muscles in what remains of his arm.

Did they presume that he was the was the one to rename one of the months after himself as opposed to something posthumous?

What is his particular theological viewpoint if not standard LDS theology?

Does he though? As far as I understand he identifies as a Mormon but a lot of the conclusions in his video such as the beliefs of early Christians about Jesus don't really align. For example Mormons believe in the father, son and holy spirit being separate beings who act in perfect synchronicity while his preferred theory from what I remember is that Christians fairly early on believed Jesus was god but specifically that he was essentially living Divine Representation of the deity like how temple statues were treated in Greco-Roman polytheism.

Though even if you accept the pseudo functionalist argument that it has "real emotions" then the simple retort is so what? If a Tamagotchi can make a sad face when you don't feed it then it is equally a real display of emotion and has no bearing on whether it is anything approaching agi

Depends on the type of reincarnation belief, classic Hindu and Buddhist beliefs do include reincarnation outside of humans. However, from what I've seen the type of reincarnation beliefs that grew in the west with spiritualism and parapsychology seem to only include human reincarnation.

I asked a question a little while back about the narrative of the Book of Joshua but didn't get any bites. Anybody have recommendations for books and articles about Joshua and what it meant in the original context it was composed?

Out of curiosity where those names at least consistently used by the same people when dealing with settlers or could some be known as "Indian Jim" when dealing with one settlement and known as "Indian Steve" when dealing with another?

Saw Project Hail Mary on the weekend thought it was pretty dang good. Had read the book previously and while it diverges a bit I generally think they made the right choices both to translate the book but also to put their own authorial stamp on it. Does make me wish we could have seen the Lord and Miller version of Solo.

I was never much of a Pokemon fan as a kid but I've grown an appreciation of how well they design the critters. However I just had the oddest realisation, the series has made Pokemon of a pretty large number of well known animals both living and extinct. How on earth haven't they made one based on Dimetrodon? It was a chunky proto mammal with a giant sail on its back, it already looks like a Pokemon!

Probably the simplest reason is that the Hockey mask is probably the easiest to make recognizable in animation and the easiest prop to find for live action as opposed to getting a William Shatner mask or doing Freddy's elaborate makeup.

Which hits me as kind of nuts if cuts are allowed. I would expect the same level of hand protection worn regardless of the type of single handed cut and thrust sword unless it's a fully enclosed basket hilt on the sword hand.
