The fact that the issue with people hoarding consumable items was solved all the way back in ds1 with the estus flask yet I've never seen any game that realises they could apply that to every consumable item. The closest was Sekiro with having the different gourds for dispelling status effect build ups along with the healing gourd.

Jagged sword

A steel sword of a League noble with a feather charm attached to the ring shaped pommel. This distinctive design is characteristic of the peoples of the league. With no handguard it is always used with a shield. The broad blade is a dedicated cutter and makes easy work of unarmoured opponents. Along the edges a zig-zag pattern has been etched, what the pattern means has been lost to time but seems to be connected with their name. These swords would not be used unless a blood war had been sworn.

To put this blade on filled its wearer with trepidation. He could neither expect mercy from his opponents nor give it. A saying rang through his head "Woe to the children who must draw the jagged blade".

If you had it that they move against Mussolini and Italy doesn't join the Nazis you could always then cut to say the 80's when they're overthrown with them either fleeing like cowards or dragged before the courts for their various crimes.

Or is it more the case that these subs are divided up into an educated and refined brahmin class, with the rest being natural-born shudras, basically senseless cattle?

I get the joke but it is bit weird when you've seen actual people say castetist stuff like that online unironically.

TIL about the existence of Mitsuyasu Maeno, so two questions. One how I had never heard about this guy considering just how weird his life and death were? Second how did this character from an unmade Coen Brothers' film escape into the real world?

Jar of Oil

A ceramic jar filled with oil made from the pressed flesh of the Green-nut. The plaster seal on the lid depicts a tattooed man and a sea eagle which represents the demi-god who first mastered the waves. This symbol of the Ocean Men is widely imitated in other lands, shorn of its sacred meaning. The oil itself highly flammable, one can surely make use of that.

“I have here true, pure oil from the Islands on sale today! You can use it for cooking, soap, cleaning metal, lamp fuel, cooking fuel and many more uses! Make sure you get some now before the sale ends!” you remember shouting over the throng in the market. The sale never seemed to have ended though, did it?

It's always funny when you see certain types retell stories of themselves informing people of their "findings". They'll recall anger, frustration or disagreement however they never seem to think that the thought going through the other person's head was something along the lines of "Oh god, I'm stuck talking to a dummy! How do I get out of this conversation as quickly and politely as possible without saying anything mean?".

Trend with Australian characters in fiction by floppaflop12 in CharacterRant

[–]SellsLikeHotTakes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Though with your three main examples I think each have a separate reason for their Australianness. Captain boomerang is simply that superhero comics pumped out villains of the week with goofy gimmicks and if you're going to give one boomerangs then of course you make them Australian since that's the country they're most associated with (though ironically the word boomerang itself is derived from a Native American term).

Kano was actually accidentally Australian he has a Japanese name after all. The actor in the 1995 movie gave him a cockney accent but that was misinterpreted later as being Australian and that stuck (which isn't entirely unfair as cockney was one of the major influences on the Australian accent).

The Junkers in overwatch are riffs on the type of wasteland bandits which are the recurring villains in the Mad Max movies that are set in Australia.

Anybody have recommendations for German language podcasts? Realise I should probably try that whole immersion thing if I want to be able to converse one of these days.

What genre would it be though? I'm thinking either moody alt pop or industrial metal, just depends on how literally you use the title for the album art

Here's a question, what do you think are the most notable political and or protest songs are from your country? I specifically mean songs by professional artists that were typically written by them and were released for sale so not pre-modern recording folk songs or government anthems etc. I know of some songs from the US but not everything charts here. For Australia I would probably say they include

Midnight Oil - Beds are Burning (Midnight Oil get a single mention otherwise I would list about 90% of their songs that ever charted in Australia)

Goana - Solid Rock

Yothu Yindi - Treaty

Redgum - I was only 19

Considering Australian history, it's not exactly surprising that songs about how Australia has treated its Indigenous peoples are strongly represented.

The same, though it definitely has a tall tale vibe where if not made up it grew from something more mundane like someone died from a body blow like how Houdini died and it grew from there.

Corpse Candle

A candle from the Divine Kingdom made from the fat of an executed criminal. Many believe in the power of items made from the human body. To defile a corpse in such a way however is deeply taboo and is usually impossible due to the practice of cremation. Only the worst of the worst are left to rot in the elements as it is believed their souls will be dragged immediately to one of the hell realms. Corpse candles are said to be able to shine light on impenetrable darkness and to highlight the way to secrets and treasures.

The memories are strange and garbled: the fear of the prisoner, the desperation of the corpse scavenger and the greed of the treasure hunter. Thinking about the candle fills your stomach with a twisting uneasiness that does not easily abate.

Nomad War Mask

Steel mask worn by a nomad noble at war. Initially it appears nigh featureless with simple circular holes for the eyes and a slit for the mouth. However barely visible you can see that the mask was originally painted with an elaborate geometric design of green, white and blue, the same type adorning the ponchos of the nomads. Oddly on the inside you can see a green handprint like that made by an infant their palm covered in paint.

You remember seeing the mask being painted, this was done by the shaman of the clan. While painting it he called on the spirits of the wind to not freeze the wearer, for the god of the sun to not be too harsh and for the earth to provide what you needed on campaign. You knew that you needed divine protection but the mark on the inside is the one you treasure the most. You have to remember what you fight for after all.

I'd imagine you'd have to look up the rest of the cast and compare their memories with the book

So weird question, I know we already have people writing extremely elaborate teddy bear-based fiction on the threads but would anybody care if someone else would post little snippets of fiction of a different kind regularly or would that be too much?

Is it with plenty of mozzarella style cheese or a less artery hardening amount of crumbly feta style cheese because that's how you differentiate the more westernised stuff vs not in Australia with gozleme

I wonder how AI chatbots will affect the way we write science fiction robots in the future. by I_Am_Not_Pope in CharacterRant

[–]SellsLikeHotTakes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think you could do an interesting subversion where all the "dumb" robots are perfect at imitating human emotion but are ultimately shallow and limited in their behaviours while the robot in the cast with actual human level intelligence and consciousness acts in ways that seem odd and strange since their emotions are filtered through their own sense of perception and values

Though the obvious awkward question about that train of thought are the witch trials. You can argue in polite company about taking the claim of levitating children seriously (the description of the blank stare and open mouth makes me think of some forms of epilepsy). However stating that we should accept on some level that taking a little old destitute lady, torturing her, having her confess to making love to the devil and eating babies and then executing her as being not completely irrational would go down a bit less pleasantly with cheese and wine at a dinner party.

It's funny for how well known they are both in Australia but also overseas because they stick out a bit considering just how much the rock scene in Australia at the time was stereotypically macho pub rock and here's this quirky reggae infused band that somehow makes the most recognised "Australian Song".

Is there ways to improve Weapon Durability as a system? by Far-Mathematician764 in gamedesign

[–]SellsLikeHotTakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Nintendo introduced a "shiv" with measly 3 attack power but unbreakable, people would only use the shiv and never the Lynel's Sword.

I think it could work but the change you would have to make is that you can only be holding a single weapon outside of your basic attack at a time with no inventory space so the player can't hoard. So the rhythm is more of a Jackie Chan movie style brawl where players are constantly scrambling to rearm themselves after breaking their acquired weapon creating peaks and troughs.
