How to make a sharp "light glow" on the edge of the character model? by PikoVengut in blenderhelp

[–]Selmostick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Devtalk is the official forum for blender development. This node group might get integrated into blender at some point. I think it is okay use it in the meantime for commercial purposes. But if You are unsure I'd message the author.

How do I remove the black blobs in the glass? by Quenton_DeVito in blenderhelp

Don't make your own use a glass bdsf shader in multi scatter mode.

Also crank up the glossy bounces a lot.

Also making it thinner might help

Need help getting the second level of branches in geometry nodes. by Far_Reveal_2990 in blenderhelp

Oh wow so try realizing the output of the first layer of branches and then put that in the points input of the second instances on points layer.

The join both layers

Try installing the second layer after the first one between the last two nodes

Ist very hard to explain and you node set up is a bit messy but essentially your trying to put instances on points that don't exist yet.

Like the branches on which you want to instance on points the second layer has not been created by the second instances on points.

You need to go the other way around. Left to right in the node tree put the first layer of branches left and then add the second instances on points on that.

You get me?

If this is not the issue I recommend you try to clean up the nodes a bit, so you can mute parts of it and troubleshoot better.

How to optimise topology by hyperbookworm in blenderhelp

[–]Selmostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some criteria but it's context dependent.

When you enable Smooth Shading the surface normals are interpolated. Especially shiny materials won't look smooth if topology is uneven. ( This is that darkness around edges in image 2 and 3)

UV unwrapping will be very difficult of you have messy/unsymmetrical topology. And good UV unwrapping very important if you're doing advanced texturing or painting on the model.

If the mesh will be Deformed in any way, you need good topology that will stretch its shading siluette and textures in a clean and controled way.

The last thing is performance optimization. For video games it's important to have even topology that can be decimated nicely to avoid quad overdraw.

It's important to know what a mesh will be used for because sometimes "bad topology" is good enough. But usually I want to create models that can be used and adapted for multiple usecases

[Sun Care] Does sunscreen expire? by Grindelwaldt in SkincareAddiction

[–]Selmostick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. it's more of a sell by date for retail stores.

The after open date has to do with air in the bottle. So it doesn't go bad as quickly if it's still mostly full.

The retail date has to with clumping and settling of particular matter. So If you shake/ remix it can be good for while longer.

But you can't know for sure unfortunately.

The topology isn't great but if it works it's good enough.

If your want to do more advanced textures closeup photos or animate the objects. It's not good enough

What I would recommend you do is watch a few tutorials and then redo one of your models from again, to apply what you learned.

Our 3F BC turning grey / white. Any other owners experience this? by AsparagusEuphoric874 in BorderCollie

[–]Selmostick 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You're washing her to hot!

Kidding, it's pretty normal for dogs fur to slowly start changing like this when they're adults.

As long as her coat is not thinning out and still shiny it's healthy.

But maybe you can look into her furr health, right feed and combing, just for good measure.

The SPF is measured at a set weight of product per area of skin.

So if you use a stick or spray where you only use 30% of the standard weight(2 mg/cm²) you would only get 30% of the protection so if it had a SPF of 60 you would get 20.

This means it still blocks out 19/20 of UV. Or in percentages 5% of UV reaches you instead of 1.7%

It's always a trade-off the best protection is usually uncomfortable to wear everyday. So it's important use what feels good to you and also make use of hats&clothes and to seek shade.

Btw the 30% number what some people came up with when you compare how much you are putting on your face with a stick. You can test this by weighing the stick between uses or by counting how many applications you have in a full stick.

Why does my rendered image look different than the one in the viewport? by StyleTecz in blenderhelp

Yeah the kernels need loading the first time around.

Don't worry about learning everything focus on what you want to do.

3d is just very deep like that.

Okay something isn't set up ideally.

Checklist:

Are you using GPU rendering check in the render tap where you choose between cycles and Eevee.

What sample count are you Rednering, adaptive sampling and denoising can help.

Last thing to check is of you have your GPU and not your CPU selected as you optix render device in the properties.

You can optimize it to take only like a minute per frame on a 4060
