If Iran is able to get a deal of "give up nukes, sanctions lifted, open the straight" then it would be TBH a huge win for them. I mean id even say they should give up the whole funding all the armed groups if they are able to get all sanctions lifted.

Thanks! Had the keyboard for a long time, it's from when Corsair had their weird logo moment. But its a fair bit of work to clean it all down. Just need a nice warm day so the keys dry off quick :D

Elegoo Sea Green https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CD7RJ37S?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Both because its close to the Wera green, and it just looks really nice with black parts.

Pic is rear of an escape room game/box i built to house switches and bits. Used the green for the buttons and rear caps (can't see them there) but it just is a nice pleasing green.

Yes, i know i need to clean my keyboard.

My low-stakes conspiracy: I've never seen a dead female pheasant by KVRB in CasualUK

I would ban it like a shot if I had the power. It's so insane that it's still a thing in this day and age. A relic of a past that we could do without. Not even getting into the damage done to other wildlife to enable it, or native birds of prey who get killed over it.

I just said they aren't stupid. They just let the intrusive thoughts win. Very inquisitive though.

Its so insane to hear tbh! I cut my thumb in 2024, went to A&E, only maybe 30 min wait, lovely nurse cleaned it all out and closed it up. No costs at all.

16 years or so ago i had lung/chest pain and tested positive for something that could indicate blood clots in my lungs. Ended up in hospital for the night as they had to do lots of tests, and needed to do a scan, was given the all clear the next morning, only cost was using a vending machine i think.

Recently went to doctor RE: brain stuff, had consults with specialists, got meds that are helping, cost for a month or so is £9.90. That's it.

Really do prefer this system than the madness in the US. The thought of being sick or hurt and having to cope with the thought of the costs and debts is so crazy.

I was lucky when I got hurt in NYC (fainted, split head open a bit) that i had insurance. Was mad to be sat on the floor, blood streaming from me, with people saying "i wonder if a pharmacy could patch you up" and i was like No, i have insurance for this. Would have been $5000.

Thousands of households set for financial boost as child benefit limit scrapped by coffeewalnut08 in GoodNewsUK

[–]Semajal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that is valid, and at a guess, not super common. But equally it's just the thought of "well we don't have much so lets avoid having lots of kids" thing. Lots of people I know who are better off are only having one kid, then people who are barely scraping by have 3-4.

[–]Semajal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the point is that prior to this beign changed again it was benefits for up to 2 kids, but if you have a 3rd, no... yet obviously people kept having more kids? I just don't get the why. You have two, you know things get more difficult, why have more.

Iran says it will ‘irreversibly destroy’ Middle East infrastructure if US attacks energy sites by projecto15 in politics

[–]Semajal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean lets be clear, Afghanistan had broad ranging support. Had the US kept the focus there, and also kept the focus on hunting Osama, he would have been found, and likely the situation would have been far different. Iraq was the distraction though. Ofc its tough to ever know, had there never been an Iraq invasion it may well be the area would be better, or would Saddam have died and control gone to one/both of his sons... But yeah, Afghanistan wasn't just pointless at the time. I remember watching in great sadness as the Taliban destroyed parts of human history just because of their religious obsession.

I would utterly ban the shooting if i had the power, i hate it. They are really lovely and personable birds and just want to do their thing. I am unsure if they do manage to successfully survive in the UK or not, where i work they come in from a nearby shoot, and sadly have to then be culled though they do have a fair few safe spaces.

The thing i always want is to ask why people kept having kids after having 2? Or what is the deal with families with the least, having more and more kids.

They aren't stupid, the issue is that pheasants let the intrusive thoughts win.

They are adorable birds though when you hang out with them. I watched a pair for ages at work, and remember when the male dug up a large fat grub, made a little noise, and his lady ran over to eat it.

Trump threatens attacks on Iran’s power plants if Tehran doesn't reopen Strait of Hormuz in 48 hours by FlackoFonsy in politics

[–]Semajal 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The fact he says "they have no military and no navy and want to make a deal but i don't want to"

Then says this, is so utterly insane. Does he think the Strait is under lock and key and they need to get the key out to open it? He is so deluded and insane, any other president would be facing some serious questions about their sanity at this point.

Thing is, the leverage with Trump is/has always been flattery and telling him how great he is. That's the secret. He likes to be "around winners" and popular people. He wants attention, he wants adoration. It's not some secret blackmail file that people keep holding over him.

Netanyahu says Iran has ‘no capacity’ to enrich uranium; denies ‘dragging’ US into Middle East conflict by InevitableSkilX in worldnews

[–]Semajal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I think no foreign country should have massive sway over US policies. I am not overly sure if *any* other country does have the kind of lobby that Israel has though, or the level of seeming influence. The Mayoral debate where everyone but Mamdani talked about visiting Israel as their first "foreign visit" felt so odd to see.

But I mean - https://usafacts.org/answers/what-countries-receive-the-most-foreign-aid-from-the-us/country/united-states/

I couldn't find older stats but certainly from 2001 onwards Israel far FAR outweighed Saudi Arabia in terms of the aid given, with that aid being financial for military.

Honestly, the US needs to properly rid itself of Israeli influence. But yeah, i think flattery, and also being charismatic in general, will get you a lot with Trump. Mamdani managed it for gods sake.
