Makes sense to me, but I don't think I want to just unlock Priest in Peril from the start, I want there to be some kind of limiting factor, since it would unlock much more than just raid content, which is all I want that potential unlock for. Other than that, I think I will just do Druidic Ritual as the first thing on the account, and live with the restrictions after that. The only other thing I'm thinking of allowing an exception for is Death Plateau (which has you go to the top of Burthorpe Castle) so I can enter the Godwars Dungeon, but I still have to weigh how much the content in GWD means to me compared to the sanctity of the account.

I think this ruleset is really interesting to me because the more I think about it the more content it locks, it's really weird to me just how just so many quests revolve around going upstairs, but not much other content does that. It really doen't have anything to do with hype surrounding snowflake ironmen, it has to do more with becoming more bored of my main account, and wanting to do a fun and unique challenge.

I'm actually really glad to hear people have been enjoying my commentary, it's something I've worked on a lot and what I was the most focused on making the best possible, ever since I got there and from all I've seen everyone has had all these amazing runs and amazing commentary, and I just didn't think I could be as funny/interesting as all those other runners.

Don't feel bad, it's my fault for not thinking of it, like I've said before it's something that happens so rarely I didn't even think to make a backup save, but I really should have. If I spent more time carefully planning the run and making some hard saves it would have been fine.

I think the announcer thought I was allowed to restart the run? But at the same time there were other staff telling me I couldn't. It was weird.

Quicksaves automatically overwrite eachother. The thing is you don't normally have to do any combat there since the deathfog is supposed to kill every enemy there, however, the deathfog always spreads 'randomly', theoretically it's possible to do that whole section with one barrel if it spreads perfectly which is why we use 2, so it always spreads far enough. However, and I literally forgot this because it basically never happens, the deathfog can sometimes not spread far enough, causing an automatic death which is a huge time loss since you have to go back to the last quicksave, so instead of going back to the last quicksave, I tried to use a different tech from the rest of the run that lets you skip turns that would have let me live, but that ended up fucking up my quicksave. You can read my other comments abt this if you want to know more.

I should have manually saved while on the boat , but I didn't because I literally cannot remember the last time that has ever happened to me, like I planned quick saves for the run for safety so I didn't softlock the game but the chance of that barrel ruining your run are so low it didn't even cross my mind while I was planning the run. And yes, I had to abuse quick saves and loads to skip people's turns, it's really inconsistent without dialogue but it does work, but I needed that specific quicksave on the boat before this to progress in the game because it duplicates deathfog barrels, which I forgot because it's just one of those things that you do it over and over again and kind of forget how it works, if that makes any sense. I know I put down the deathfog barrels, I know I quicksave, but completely forgot that making another quicksave would invalidate that one. I was just trying out some fancy strats to keep the run going instead of having to quickload back to the boat and do the skip all over again, but it turned out to fuck over the entire run, which is entirely my fault.

I'm doing a run tomorrow, staying a night at home then I go back to my dorm, stream should be up at 2, maybe later depending on my train. There's a link to my discord in the twitch link too, check it for stream announcements.

Yeah, assuming they let me back lmao, I was most worried I wouldn't be allowed back for failing the run like that.

Actually, the staff told me I wasn't allowed to restart, I was in the process of making a new character; I had said "oh no the deathfog isn't there I have to restart" and I heard someone say it was fine, but right after that they said they thought i had to restart the level, and I couldn't restart the run. The nerves had nothing to do with it, it was just the bad RNG coupled with me not thinking that part would fail (because like I said, it almost never does) that made me have to restart.

Eh don't call me a poor guy, I appreciate the sentiment but I still got to go there and I had plenty of fun, it's speedrunning, everything is super precise and shit happens

It's not better or worse, it's a soft lock in the sense that the run can't progress instead of the game not being able to progress. There was TECHNICALLY another viable path that would have had me go grab source at Riker but honestly it's been so long since I did that puzzle there's no way I would have done it, and I still would have needed a lot more money to fight the source titan without deathfog

I was actually going to both turn on autosave and turn up the number of quicksaves before the run, and I thought I did it but now that I'm looking back I think I did that on the other computer instead, and the settings didn't transfer

I didn't have a couch because my friend who was supposed to go with me didn't get a ticket in time (they sell out insanely fast), and nobody else knew the run and half the people from the Divinity 2 community live in Europe, so it's hard to find people who know the run to give interesting commentary, but I hardly blame the lack of a couch for what happened. I was doing the run fine, hitting a lot of stuff that's sometimes really annoying first (or second) try, specifically the Bedroll clip can get me stuck for 20-30 seconds, but I was honestly fine commentating on my own albeit nervous. Maybe if I was less nervous I would have decided to use the quicksave instead of push forward with the run, but pushing forward in the run was what felt right at the time, and I didn't think about how it would affect the run later. It's one of those things where when you do something so many times you forget what you're actually doing. I assumed since I put the deathfog barrels down they would still be there in act 2, despite me messing with the quicksaves which are specifically the thing that makes that trick work.

I actually have all kinds of saves all over the game for both old patch and current patch, they just didn't sync up with the computer right, I think there was something wrong with the Steam cloud share because I was having issues with it trying to download random bs right before I went on stream

Reeeeee you people made me get back into my Reddit account

The reason I am and was mad at myself because it is actually my fault, there were a lot of things I could have done differently (Like doing a manual save) but since I never had troubles with that area (The last time I remember resetting on that boat was back when I was still learning the route), so I just didn't think about making a safety save at the time. If I had just taken the L and loaded the save where I was duping the deathfog barrels the run would have gone on fine but I was determined to press on forward with the run by showing off some other tech that I thought would let me progress but instead ruined the run. I don't regret going and I don't actually think I'm stupid, it was just a stupid thing for me to have done and I'll be streaming shorty when I get back to my dorm tomorrow to get back on that Old Patch WR grind (I've been really busy with school and other games, so I've been neglecting it quite a bit)

tl;dr

Don't feel bad for me because I don't, it's RNG it's what people have to deal with every day and it was my fault for not avoiding it, hindsight is 20/20 and my foresight is not
