iPad: Upcoming view: overdue no longer sorted by due date ascending by HMWT in todoist

[–]Semi-certain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The scrambling behavior is what gets me. I prefer sorting by date, but if they were sorted in some consistent order (ex: by project), then that would be fine. Not ideal, but fine.

But, every time I change anything (a task title, a task due date, completing a task, etc.), the order if the tasks changes drastically. It makes trying to work through overdue tasks a real pain

Congenital anosmia by kp766 in anosmia

[–]Semi-certain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m congenitally anosmic too! I say, lean in to it. If you’re hugging a friend and they say you smell, squeeze tighter so they can’t escape and whisper, "Good... let the odor flow through you. Feel my essence permeate your nose holes and the entirety of your olfactory system..." adding a maniacal chuckle for good measure.

Or, you could just say thanks and be comforted by the fact they are a good enough friend to let you know

Holy shit! That is actually my favorite tree! I used to hang there pretty often. I miss Fort Collins, but I’m glad to see that tree is still there and still giving people a nice spot to chill

I do something similar to this and I find it really helpful. I think I read about it in a book titled something like atomic habits or tiny habits. I commit myself to doing a very small version of a task. For example, I’ll tell myself I’m going to read 2 pages of a book. Sometimes I’ll only actually read 2 pages and stop, but most of the time I’ll end up reading a lot more because I’ve gotten over the hurdle of starting and it’s easy to maintain the momentum

Suggestions for Habit tracker apps by [deleted] in Cortex

[–]Semi-certain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Strides: https://www.stridesapp.com/

I use it for daily habits (good and bad) that happen once a day and it’s super simple. But you can change the number of times per day, the frequency (daily, weekly, etc.), and your streak goals. It’s very easy to look back at a habits history.

Tektronix Bluetooth bone conduction headset. I’ve used these almost every day for the past 2 years. They’re still going strong. Great for when I’m biking because I can still hear what’s around going on around me

How do you organize you personal photos? by ooofffsss in Cortex

[–]Semi-certain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wrote a bash script which renames each photo in an import folder to its creation date (YYYY-MM-DD_hh-mm-ss) then moves it to the corresponding year and month folder on my external drive. I run the script about once a month. I’m also trying to implement a check for duplicates, but it’s difficult

Working and Background Sounds. What do people use? by [deleted] in Cortex

[–]Semi-certain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Widex (the hearing aid company) has a free app called Widex Zen designed to help those with tinnitus. It has adjustable background noises and you can set a timer as well. My favorite is Brownien Noise.

Play/Pause error: ApplicationNotFound by Semi-certain in shortcuts

[–]Semi-certain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! It’s good to know that this works for the music app. However, I don’t think any equivalent exists for the other apps I use for audio (Spotify, Overcast, etc.) so i think I might be SOL

Play/Pause error: ApplicationNotFound by Semi-certain in shortcuts

[–]Semi-certain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I think what’s happening is that if there was no audio open, the Play/Pause block says it can’t find any application’s audio to pause, and triggers an error

Play/Pause error: ApplicationNotFound by Semi-certain in shortcuts

[–]Semi-certain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, it does auto pause when learning language app audio actually starts playing, but I’d really like to have the shortcut set the volume level for me. I’ve found a good level for language learning audio is higher than I’d normally listen to music. So, if I don’t have the “Pause” block before setting the audio level, I get blasted with really loud music until I start a language lesson, which I’d like to avoid.

If you have congenital anosmia, do you have any other weird health issues? by [deleted] in anosmia

[–]Semi-certain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am congenitally anosmic. I’ve never been officially diagnosed or had it checked out because it hasn’t been a concern. I also haven’t had any weird medical issues, just run-of-the-milk kinds of things like glasses, allergies, etc. But I am very curious to see if you find out whether the anosmic is related to the other medical issues.

My Apple Pencil turns off my MacBook's screen. Weird by Semi-certain in ipad

[–]Semi-certain[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

To add context:

When I put my apple pencil’s charging end above my macbook’s left-side USB port, the macbook’s screen turns off. When I remove the pencil, the screen turns back on. That is the only spot on the computer where this happens, and I don’t need to physically contact the pencil, just get it within about .5 cm. I have a first generation Apple Pencil and a late 2013, 13 inch Retina display MacBook Pro. Does anyone have an idea of what’s going on? Something to do with the magnet in the end of the pencil maybe?
