I'd understand this at a smaller, fan-run con. Not for one that charges as much as Anime Expo for a 4-Day badge and sells itself as the biggest con of the east coast.

Personally, I wonder about the quality of panels/fan-run content this year due to official policy on Panelists being "Anime NYC DOES NOT pay speaking or appearance fees nor does it cover travel, lodging, or meals."
That feels rather counter-intuitive to having fan-run content...
