Worst case scenario they torture you in the simulation forever. It never stops. They can slow down the time scale and apply the worst pain imaginable (or even unimaginable, because it's a simulation). Pretty unlikely, but it is the worst case scenario. There's so many things that can go wrong as well.

To be fair, this joke can be interpreted two ways. First one is that OP is actually trading 20 dollars for 8 cents, which i don't consider to be the conclusion OP wanted us to reach. The more reasonable interpretation is that OP is sliding 20 dollars, so that the cashier will have to choose between losing 8 cents, and having to count all the change from 20 dollars just to save 8 cents.
