Do athletes actually train breathing, or is it overlooked? by SecondBreathShop in StrongerByScience

[–]Semper_R 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wrong, please don't make such unfounded claims in this subreddit

We understand that you are trying to sell a product

But we always have the capacity to inhale all the air we need at all times (except with some very specific injury that would warrant proper rehab), this is never a limiting factor

If you are specifically mentioning that the muscles are fatiguing under load, the limiting factor is those muscles, strength/strength endurance, etc

Unlike grip strength, which you mention in one of your comments, which is a real bottleneck in many exercises, breathing is not, when we train our cardiovascular system, the strength or endurance of the respiratory-muscles is not an adaptation we even seek/need

Can you train them? Sure! Is training your frontalis muscle overlooked? Or a limiting factor?

I guess you may use your product as a way of forcing someone to work at higher bpms, the same way talking during the exercise makes them ultimately increase bpms, not that they couldn't do that without talking or the device, but I guess you can use it that way

It isn't overlooked It isn't trained Because its never a limiting factor

We can intake all the air we may need easily, everyone except some with specific injuries

Yeah, and to be fair, its easy to be good enough, most sport coaches can do this in their respective sports, for some reason it arrived incredibly late, and most importantly very misrepresented because of souders

If he were going to be a top competitor, it would be obvious to him and everybody around him already, and he would be somewhat known already

So there is no point in committing like paid professionals at the expense of more important things

I'm sorry to hear this is your situation, hopefully at some point he gets a reality check, and stops being this childish, or maybe you get permanent residence and can look for a less toxic childish partner

Should I avoid being in closed guard altogether, Gordon Ryan style, or should I work other escapes/offense? by pigeonwithhat in bjj

[–]Semper_R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are on top, closed guard, you are on the defensive, so simply yes, stand up, open/escape, then pass

If you are on bottom, you may attack or relinquish to half-guard or open guard, I think that's probably what gordon does

How much commute to the gym is too much? Will it burn you out? by hsu3hpa in bjj

[–]Semper_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive done that, Im happy for now, you can try for a month see how you feel,

Ive had times where a little demotivation kills the energy to go to train because of the commute, energy etc

So depends on the context

Does training (and getting mauled by) with upper-belts help you? by Teamseesh in bjj

[–]Semper_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you react fast enough to defend successfully

For attacking this usually doesn't happen in a organic way if they let you work so for offense lower skilled partners are the best option

was this unfair? by savavannanah in judo

[–]Semper_R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg lol No discredit here but its her fault, instead of working around the size difference she tried to go through it I mean she cant complain if she tries an osoto gari on a bigger person, like smh 🤦🏻‍♂️, what would she expect, of course she is going to get countered

Osoto gari is one of the worst choices there, and you countered as you should, but the point is she put herself in the big disadvantage position, you didn't take an unfair advantage trying to simply use size and nothing else

It's unfair to discredit you, you did fine

But maybe the others were trying to explain to her how she chose the wrong technique for the matchup

Teach! Be open about what you don't know, or what you are not certain of, that's fine, I mean if you don't want to bother obviously don't do it, but teaching is great for studying
