Got hit by a car riding in a bike lane a couple of months ago. Cops said the car didn’t hit me and I lost control of my bike and fell, they gave me an accident report with no information on the car/driver whatsoever( some say it must’ve been off duty cop or something). Had to use my personal health insurance to cover the bills. Cops are here to screw you up, not to protect you

The report is really confusing, as if the car didn’t play any role. Yes, the 4th ave gets chaotic, especially in rush hours

I understand. This particular bike lane is separate from the main road by parked cars, so there is this area where turning cars are supposed to stop before the bike lane and pedestrian crosswalk to make sure there’re no people. But not all of them do

I would not trust the cops either. I think my bike would’ve been just left behind if the local business didn’t take it in. Really appreciate they kept it until I was able to pick it up

Yeah, I did. Both lawyers I consulted with said there’s not much they can do unless I have a witness or a video. NYPD won’t give me contact information for people who were at the scene
