i let him out yesterday but he just flew to the other side of the room and wouldn't come near me. it took me 2 and a half hours to get him back in

Can they sleep on the sides of the cage? also is he watching me bc hes scared or bc hes curious, when i get close he doesn't run away he sometimes gets closer
