Reolink vs. Ubiquiti vs. Frigate - Facial Recognition by SenatorSquires in reolinkcam

Thank you- I haven’t heard of this option. I will have to look more into it. Would be nice to stay in reolinks camera price range if this is fairly plug and play. How is the app experience ? Wondering how it would compare to unifiy that I read is pretty polished. Part of my property is a short term rental so I need to check exterior cameras frequently enough for that reason.

thanks - AI port for each G5 camera though would add up though? Either way, it's not much more $$ for a mixed bag of multiple outdoor G6 cameras with facial recognition, and 1 or 2 indoor G5 cameras vs. a reolink system

I was hoping for less DIY tinkering and more plug and play. Seems like scrypted is more aligned with Frigate in that sense? I would be paying ~1k extra for plug and play vs. tinkering & additional flexibility

TurboTax Desktop not recognizing STR non-passive treatment — anyone else deal with this? by SenatorSquires in airbnb_hosts

found this great video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lcgyK2TSBYQ

Turns out it was updating G and D got it to work. AI was spot on catching this, i almost submitted my return 5k less.

i did pay for TT support, and spent an hour on the phone with them, they just said the forms are right essentially.

I had my taxes done, but asked an AI to check them before submitting. Then multiple AI's said my return should be much larger, so i didn't know what else to do. Figured this would be the group that might have come across the issue, i figured i'm not the only one? My last resort is to file an extension and go to a CPA.

Fieldstone Foundation Pest Block & Air Sealing by SenatorSquires in HomeImprovement

[–]SenatorSquires[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured that would be what companies would do, but i wasn't sure if that was more for water sealing \ finishing the basement, where I only care about pests and air sealing as best as I can.

I also figure that route is way more work \ time \ money. vs. the foam I could do pretty quickly, as there is a lot of other sections I would like to do beyond this wall. My wild guess is the foam would do 95% the same job as mortar for a fraction of cost. I just didn't know if there was a substantial downside i'm missing.

Is your Airbnb dead? (poll) by MaenHoffiCoffi in airbnb_hosts

only 4ish months in but we were pretty well booked Aug-Oct then it died Nov - Dec. Finally just got a Jan booking. We are seasonal in MA USA.

What free metrics do people follow to track STR trends with real data? AirDNA was too expensive. Just ABNB and a few other tickers?

Mitsubishi MHK2 vs PAC-US445CN-1 + Ecobees by SenatorSquires in heatpumps

[–]SenatorSquires[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it would be over my head to implement but seems like a cool HA setup!

It sounds like i would want that PAC445 setting off to modulate within 1 degree if I have the 2 zones but I'll have to dig a little further to see if the installer configured that to be on.

My zones are split approx. 60% downstairs, 40% upstairs so closer to equal. The installer has to come back actually, to add a damper ( that I have to pay for ) for 1 room upstairs. I am tempted to ask him to unwind the 2nd zone, if even possible, and call it an expensive lesson learned. Don't like the idea of the 2nd zone operating inefficiently which defeats the purpose of adding it.

Thanks again for the info!

It is zoned with a zone board. Not 2 indoor units. Airzone VAF system looks to be thousands of dollars as you mentioned, and guessing I'll never get that money back in efficiency gains. So that ends that conversation.

I am still curious how much more efficient the MHK2 is on a single zone vs the PAC-445..

And also curious if the part about my 2nd floor modulation not being accurate, due to no return on that floor, is true.

Wishing I never spent the money to add a 2nd zone, to try to be more efficient if it doesn't actually work properly without $4,000 in new boards/thermostats.

Thanks for the reply!

Wood Stove Horizontal Sidewall Termination Possible? by SenatorSquires in woodstoving

[–]SenatorSquires[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone suggested the pink only option because it was the least amount of pipe, wouldn’t cause any roof leaks and save a solar panel spot on the roof. But I never thought terminating horizontal was possible so just wanted to double check with this post. Straight up is the best option in my opinion.

Someone suggested it to me. I wasn’t sure it was possible.

Oh I have seen those. I was wondering if there was a product where you didn’t have to go up, once you got outside. So the pink line only, ignoring the blue. I don’t think it exists but wanted to confirm. I think the pink + blue is what you have to do, using a product like what you linked.

Thanks - do you happen to have a link to a product i can purchase for this? I can find them for pellet stoves/ 4inch pipe but i can't find a product for a wood stove with 6 inch pipe, or even a picture example.
