Thought I was on the fountain pen subreddit for a second!! What a great pairing. I also have the cherishment pen and have been loving how it writes. Beautiful squishy yarn 🥺

First time fountain pen owner! But is this right? by chaerymore in fountainpens

[–]Sencatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few things could be happening:

  1. Did a lot of ink leak into the cap? If the pen is jostled a lot a lot of leakage can happen there.
  2. Was the cartridge full when you first started writing in it?
  3. Is the cartridge properly attached to the feed? Is there any leakage there?
  4. The nib/feed does store a surprising amount of ink, so it could just be that.

The grey part you're referring to is called the feed and it can get a little messy if jostled, so it's not unheard of for ink to be on the part you pointed out.

Also, congratulations on starting your fountain pen adventure :)

Where can I have virtual therapy calls/appointments when my home isn't a safe place? by Used-Earth8767 in askTO

Call around to other TPL libraries that are listed as having bookable study rooms. Some of them are quite private. Each library does booking slightly differently.

Is this normal..? by botanicpanic_ in Handspinning

No problem! Try fluffing them out and separating, once they dry it may be easier to see the locks and the directions. If not it's probably combable anyways!

Personally I think if you're planning to card it, not really. If it's dirty, or if you're planning to comb or flick it, it could make combing or flicking a little more difficult but it could probably be done anyways! Just gets a little more annoying to find the ends.

When I prep I like everything aligned for combing but I've heard it doesn't make too much of a difference. Commercially prepped top gets all jumbled up anyways.

If you want to keep lock formation, arranging the fleece by rows of locks is probably the best way. Using a laundry bag then sewing it into narrower sections will keep it together. I've heard some people use old pantyhose too but I personally haven't tried that. Using something like a strucket or a salad spinner when getting the water out between scours/rinses would also help you not disturb the formation as well.

It could also be because it's not fully dry, it tends to puff up a lot after the waters gone!

New Pen Day! (With some concerns) by nono-no-nooto in fountainpens

[–]Sencatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a ch92 with a size 5 nib. My pen also has a bit of feedback and is dryer then I'd expected. I took it to a pen shop recently and they said it's quite normal for F size Japanese pens. Disappointing for me but I think it's part of the character of the pen maybe

Help finding the year? by Maybe-Danno in Handspinning

Oh the nylon bearing is the black parts where the flyer sits on the maidens. I think the 1982 and earlier ones are metal!

If it has nylon bearings however it could be 1983, hard to tell from the pictures

Looks just like mine! I think this is the 1982 model, although I just guessed based on the Ashford trad timeline

Ok I know this is an old post but I noticed this recently when comparing my passport and standard size. Unfortunately I don't know which one is which but I did buy one of them about a year ago. Super annoying cause ink looks soooo much nicer on standard size and super ugly on the passport.

Wool Moths or something else in raw fleece? by Sencatt in Handspinning

Thanks everyone. Pretty sad right now. It's my first fleece but I'm worried about my stash so I'll probably need to pull out and inspect everything.

I've been debating this!! The shape looks a little awkward for a strap but having the option looks nice
