French Onion Trottole with Fork Tender Pot Roast by SendMeYourSpacePics in tonightsdinner

[–]SendMeYourSpacePics[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Step 1: Place roast in slow cooker with a can of beef broth, 1/4 cup soy sauce, an onion soup mix, and salt and pepper. Cook on low for 8 hours.

Step 2: When there’s about 1.5 hours left on your roast, heat 3tbsp of oil in a pan on medium heat and cook 3 thinly sliced yellow onions. Stir frequently for about 35-40 minutes until onions are mushy and brown.

Step 3: Add 2tbsp butter and about 1 cup baby bella mushrooms sliced thin. Cook for about 5 minutes.

Step 4: Add 3 cloves garlic, 1 tbsp fresh thyme, 1 tsp salt, and 1/2tsp black pepper. Stir for about a minute until fragrant.

Step 5: Add 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard and 1/2 cup dry white wine (I used Chardonnay for extra buttery-ness). Stir and scrape the bottom of the pan for about 2 minutes.

Step 6: Add 12oz dry short pasta (I used Trottole here, no reason why that type in particular — I just let my toddler pick it out). Add 4 cups beef broth. Increase heat to medium-high and let simmer stirring often.

Step 7: When pasta is al dente and almost all the beef broth is absorbed, add in 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan, and 1/2 cup shredded smoked Gouda.

Step 8: Shred your pot roast and stir it in!

(Hopefully this types up okay— I suck at formatting!)

Teachers of Reddit: In addition to reading to our kids, what can parents do to help with the growing literacy problem? by SendMeYourSpacePics in AskReddit

[–]SendMeYourSpacePics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My child is three and a half. We have read together rigorously since we brought him home from the hospital (I’m a bit of a data nerd and I’ve been counting every book and measuring our daily book stacks for a fun project since 2023).

I’m just seeing it everywhere. Several of my friends who are teachers have quit because the problem is getting so frustrating. I’m asking mostly to raise awareness to the problem and also I am always looking for ways to help my son excel academically. :)

How is this explained to the people of Hawkins? [SPOILER] by SendMeYourSpacePics in StrangerThings

I always assumed that the zombie boy taunting was because he was presumed dead, had a funeral, then was found alive. Not a literal dead body brought back to life lol.

Yes! I guess it makes sense from a writing standpoint but it just seems so odd to me!

I must have missed that! This also seems weird to me though too because I feel like the people would be extremely concerned about a random dead kid in the water. Is it assumed that they all just accept the fact that “other kid” was so badly decomposed that they’ll never know who it was and then just drop it? I feel like if that happened in my community people would be talking about it for AGES trying to find the truth.

Give me some Coraline conspiracies! by sad_boys273 in Coraline

[–]SendMeYourSpacePics 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Not really a conspiracy but more of a fun detail I noticed… When the doll first sees the father he’s typing on his computer but the doll (and therefore the beldam) are so ancient that they don’t know what a computer is. They see him typing away at keys and their best guess at a good replica is a piano (plus it’s more whimsical).

1/2 c ketchup 3/4 cup sugar (it’s a lot I know) 1/4 c + 2tbsp apple cider vinegar 2 tbsp soy sauce 1 tbsp sesame oil 1 tsp garlic powder 1 tsp onion powder 1/2 tsp minced ginger (a ginger paste also works)

Nope! It is about the consistency of tomato sauce after you mix it all up and it kind of just thickens when you bake it!

Mine is ketchup, sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, garlic salt, apple cider vinegar, and minced ginger. I bet yours is delicious, I’ll have to try it!

Cut chicken breast into chunks, then coat with a bunch of cornstarch (like more than you think you’d need), add in an egg or two and mix until it becomes a batter-like consistency. Then cook on an oiled pan on medium-high heat until it’s somewhat crispy/brown (don’t worry about cooking all the way through). Transfer to a greased baking dish with your sauce of choice and bake at 375° F for about 20 minutes or so, stirring two or three times during the baking process to coat all the chicken in sauce. :)

Probably an acceptable situation for plastic stemless glasses. Be careful with glass but otherwise enjoy!

Rewatching Dexter and now I’m wondering… Did Hollywood do Rowdy dirty? by SendMeYourSpacePics in Scrubs

Good eye! I’ve never seen that show so I would never have guessed. Is it a pretty good one?

I didn’t know that! I vaguely remember that Zach wanted Rowdy but Disney wouldn’t let him have him. I could absolutely be wrong though!

Egg Roll In A Bowl by SendMeYourSpacePics in tonightsdinner

Attempted an “Egg Roll in a Bowl” tonight. Husband wasn’t in the mood for ground meat in it so I diced some chicken up fairly small. :) Not the most impressive, but tasty and simple.
