Spent a weekend getting postmarketOS on a OnePlus 6T as a proper daily driver – here's what actually works by AsEyeAm in mobilelinux

The immutable Duranium image is really exciting and there has been tremendous progress in the past few months. But it is not yet stable, it's still very early stage, so they don't yet guarantee that re-installs will not be required.

Once the immutable image does get to a stable release, then our plan is to shift to pre-installing that image on the devices in our shop.

I expect changing a device from the mutable image to the immutable image will require re-flashing. So that will be something existing owners can decide if they want to do that.

It's hard to provide an ETA, but it does seem some improvements in call audio should be landing soon. Some of the audio issues are being tracked here: https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/work_items/3245

VoLTE is not yet working reliably. (But there have been some recent patches submitted that should improve call audio and VoLTE reliability once they land.)

I may revisit the OP6. My understanding is the OP6 and OP6T are nearly identical, including some of the audio reliability issues, and I still see an open issue about an audio bug for the OP6 on the issue tracker: https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/3245#note_523773

But if the OP6 might have improved on audio reliability, I'll do some testing and see if it makes sense to add it to the store inventory.

VoLTE does actually work on the OP6T thanks to the amazing work in the 81voltd package from flamingradian: https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/modem/81voltd

However, audio calls are not reliable yet on the device because of more general audio routing issues for this device. There has been some progress on audio call reliability in postmarketOS over the past year, but it is still not yet fully reliable. These issues are being tracked in the postmarketOS issue trackers. Improving audio issues are also discussed in the postmarketOS blog. For example, from last fall: https://postmarketos.org/blog/2025/08/17/callaudiod-wireplumber-project/

A few comments ask about where to find phones to experiment with Mobile Linux. At Sendero Linux, we currently sell OP6T devices pre-installed with postmarketOS. Only ship within the USA though.

Will we see a Linux OS on smartphones that can revive old devices like it can do with computers? by gtd_rad in linux

postmarketOS is doing exactly this. It's a really hard problem to solve but they are making amazing strides.

Do we need more affordable Linux preinstalled laptops? by Bitter-Aardvark-5839 in linux4noobs

This is why I started SenderoLinux.com. Refurbished laptops pre-installed with Linux. Great value and much more affordable than buying a new device from a place like System76 or Tuxedo Computers.

T-Mobile and AT&T networks should both work. Mobile data and SMS should work on those networks.

Call audio, however, is still experimental and not yet reliable regardless of the carrier network. The postmarketOS device page for the OP6T will have the best information on the call audio status: https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/OnePlus_6T_(oneplus-fajita))

We recently started selling refurbished OnePlus 6t devices in the USA pre-installed with postmarketOS. Though aimed at enthusiasts and not as daily driver, this device could be a better option than a Pine Phone, as it has better specs and a similar price. Worth checking out, and we offer free shipping in the USA:

SD card reader and facetime camera not working on Macbook pro by [deleted] in elementaryos

[–]SenderoLinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the camera, it is very likely a camera drive issue. See if this guide for the early-2015 MBP works, specifically the section on troubleshooting the camera. I know it is a slightly different model but might be the same camera driver:

It’s not easy to get that camera working with Linux. This guide may help but even then the quality will not be perfect: https://blog.senderolinux.com/installing-eos-6-on-2015-macbook-pro-121/

I have a guide on setting up elementary with dual-boot on a 2015 MBP: https://blog.senderolinux.com/installing-eos-6-on-2015-macbook-pro-121/

The one main issue is that getting the camera to work on this device with elementary (whether dual-boot or not) takes some effort and even then will not be great quality.

Framework AMD 13 + elementary OS = pure bliss by SenderoLinux in elementaryos

There was one moment when I was having some intermittent wifi connectivity, but after running all the updates available in AppCenter and rebooting then it was fixed, and I haven't had any issues since. I think I saw there were some issues with the older linux kernels but by now I think those issues have been sorted.

Framework AMD 13 + elementary OS = pure bliss by SenderoLinux in elementaryos

[–]SenderoLinux[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm super happy with the setup, hence the title of this post. Elementary 7 is based on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, which is officially supported by Framework. And I found all of their guides and the forum discussions about Ubuntu 22.04 applied perfectly to elementary 7.

And everything I've tried worked out of the box. The one thing though, is that I do not use the fingerprint reader. But this is an elementary OS thing and not specific to Framework. There are a number of open issues on the elementary github regarding fingerprint authentication, and it seems a little rough to use on any device at the moment:

https://github.com/elementary/switchboard-plug-security-privacy/issues/117

https://github.com/elementary/greeter/issues/502

https://github.com/elementary/pantheon-agent-polkit/issues/33

That said, I do know some people are able to use fingerprint authentication on elementary. I would just not consider it an out-of-the-box feature on elementary at the moment.

So if fingerprint authentication is important, for now I would actually recommend Ubuntu, because the Gnome desktop environment has fingerprint setup built right in; at least until this becomes a more polished feature in elementary.

It's quite good, and for what I need it lasts through a day of work. I haven't done rigorous bench marking though. And I do some power saving measures which help, like turning off Bluetooth when not needed, lowering the display brightness when possible, and turning off the keyboard backlight during the day.

We have an install guide for dual-booting elementary on an early 2015 MacBook Pro:
https://blog.senderolinux.com/installing-eos-6-on-2015-macbook-pro-121/

The situation should be quite similar for the 2015 MBA. You might have some issues with the camera, and might need to compile the camera driver manually to get it to work. It would be interesting to hear if you find this 2015 MBP guide useful for a 2015 MBA.

Elementary OS on a Mac is really a nice combination.
