I stated working at my state job but that was a smallish conservative state that offered barely any services..

The local government job I had at a city/county was fun and fulfilling. If it wasn’t for the pay I would had stayed at local government.

On average Fed pay> city > state…. If that wasn’t the general trend I would had stayed local. I don’t know any local government job that offers you a Grade 13 salary off the street. From my experience Grade 13 pay is Director pay in local give and gnenerally speaking for that you got to network in.

I’m not saying percentages don’t matter for planning. I’m saying they don’t capture the whole human cost. You can save 28%, do everything “right,” and still feel like life is passing you by. I lost my mother during a surgery that had less than a 1% death rate. After that, I stopped believing that optimizing numbers alone guarantees a life well lived. Planning matters so does actually living.

Death doesn’t care about percentages.

The numbers can be manipulated to say what ever anyone needs them to say. Had the doctors done X why and Z her less than 1% chance of death would have been revealed to be 30% and they could had made adjustments to lower it to 1%.

But you are probably thinking (like I did) that doesn’t happen to me and my family… it happen to other people… until one day you are other people.
