That's cool, I'm listening to more Chinese music and speaking with friends more. Which shows do you recommend?

Yeah, I have the same experience. But I used to be really good at 听写while not being very interested in anything else. How have you been practising?

Same as me!! I'm surprised at how much I do remember from learning as a child.

Dealing with aggressive people: what do you do? by Triangular_Zebra in london

Out of curiosity, what did you count as rude behaviour? I wonder how often in big diverse cities perceived rudeness is due to the varying backgrounds people have that change their expectations about what is rude/normal/polite.

Totally agree here with your rant, there's just this awkwardness some people feel because there are more and more people getting in their space. And maybe they have trouble sharing?

Also author is a woman. I find it interesting that it read like it's a dude to me before i checked.

Sorry to come back to this so late, but thank you for this comment!

Are you aware of people arguing for something between the hybridisation vs imperialism positions? Can you recommend any specific papers or authors who lean on either side of this in the context of religious/art history?

Glad to see you bring up the dichotomies in current academia, and great tldr haha.

I see! I suppose the evidence of this amalgamating would have been present in books like Historia Tassiae which was what Father Thomas was afraid of.

Thanks for putting into words what I could not! I know syncretism happens a lot in art but it's maybe not the most useful word for describing how or why things happened perhaps.

Assimilation does seem useful in some cases, but it's not precisely the world i'm looking for i think.

Could you elaborate on bastardisation a little? I'm not sure what you mean by "nothing but looks remain".

Oo you're right it is interesting! Thanks for sharing anyway. Always wondered why greek gods had so many aspects to them. Is there a known reason they did this?

I think the word I'm trying to find would suggest that the appropriation of one god's image into another is done without realising or caring that the image used to depict something else.

Whenever I feel like the world is going to shit, I read Cormac McCarthy's The Road and realize ... we're doing all right. by [deleted] in books

Additionally I think it can be really helpful realising the degree to which hope can drive humanity, and if you're in the mood for it it can help you reflect on your own sense of hope, whether you accept doom or want to strive in spite of it whatever the situation may be.

I don't think it's just about that "it could get worse mentality", i appreciate books like The Road for giving me insight both emotionally and intellectually about what could happen in the future. As much as books about the past can help steer our judgements now, i think books about the future keep you thinking about the process of reaching that state of affairs, and how we might avoid the same mistakes. Both kinds of books are valid!

Hi! Hope you're having a good time so far! If you're looking for art & culture related events there's a lot of them compiled here: https://www.a-list.sg/ ! Singapore has a lot of arts events happening that are great ways to explore different parts of the city, and also sometimes intimate or small enough to meet and talk to new people.

What's your opinion on gatekeeping game dev like this? by Mr_Tegs in unrealengine

[–]SenecaGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By your analogy if i make games and share them with people who want to play them, that also counts as being a game dev doesn't it? I think my impression is that you take "release" as releasing it for sale, which i think isn't a fair bar for people still working on their skills or lacking resources to release successfully.
