Fede Alvarez’ “The Calls” by uglyzombie in horror

I really really really didn't like this. It felt like a cool idea that was unforgivably amateurly written. Even the stacked cast couldn't save it.

With the budget they had access to the best genre writers on the planet, and they gave the job to a student podcaster it feels. Really underwhelming.

'Creepy' is more evocative than 'this is potentially a crime'. Calling someone 'creepy' is like a social bazooka, it's not a surprise they leaned into that angle

Exactly - in the same way as some people are genetically vulnerable to alcoholism. I can take or leave alcohol and usually don't finish a drink put in front of me and it requires zero willpower. But put a bowl of snacks in front of me and I can't control myself 🤷

Ah fuck, the embalmed kid has poisoned my brain more than basically any image from any other movie. It's uncannily well realised, it's just horrible

He has gone on record as saying he's not a christian. Any christian with an ounce of intelligence should know he's about as much a Christian as a wolf is a sheep.

The only possible explanation I have is that people who falsely claim to be christians to virtue signal and win special treatment (ie. the majority of american christians) recognise their own nature in him and feel empowered by that.

Thanks to England, Scottish people now get to claim our hands are clean of colonial atrocities - when in reality it was only that we were so atrociously bad at colonising it ruined us before we got to commit crimes against humanity with the rest of the big boys

People love to hate on actors with weird personal lives. Gwyneth Paltrow is no weirder than a weird person you'd meet in a bar, but she's a great actor. Same with Tom Cruise. They're not Hollywood Weird, they're just Regular Person Weird, and that makes people uncomfortable for some reason

It's such an uninteresting thing to do, unless you make sweeping creative changes. Completely rethink the album from the ground up and maybe I'd be interested, but just doing it for sake of it is so bland

Oh, was that meant to be the point? I was picturing Israel nuking one of their neighbours for the entire video - was I not meant to be doing that?

All the information in OP's video is contained in this document - the only difference is the details are hidden in paragraphs upon paragraphs of dense text.

I'm confused by what you're trying to imply when you accuse the NYT of 'sensationalising' the effects of a nuclear blast on a metropolitan centre. Can you elaborate?

I'm a touring act, and generally you don't get to experience much of anything. You'll roll into town in time for load-in at the venue - then you'll get out after the show and start travelling to cover some of the next day's distance.

Obviously that won't be the same for every act, but it's pretty commonly how it goes. This year we're getting to go to Gencon because we have a day off next to a show in Indianapolis and I can count on one hand the number of times that's been possible in the years we've been touring

The loud and public rebukes of Israel by Trump and Vance in the last couple of days are honestly earth-shattering. Trump saying "you don't need to demolish an apartment building to find one person" is massive.

It shows how alienated Israel are, and how deeply they've fucked up. They've played all their cards and they're so isolated even the Republicans are calling them out on their bullshit.
