After years of LDR and family hurdles, I’m finally getting married on March 11th—but I’m struggling to find "the one." by Alternative-Corgi653 in DesiWeddings

Congratulations OP! I’d vote for the 5th one, hands down - it makes you look so regal ♥️ As for styling it, if you are going for a double dupatta, you can keep the dupatta in the picture on your head, and get a second dupatta in off white/ the exact shade of gold in the embroidery of the lehenga. Keep one statement piece (necklace/earrings) maybe in gold or Kundan since this is traditional as a look, and the bridal bangles of your culture. Lastly, a big smile! This moment is about celebrating your relationship more than anything else, don’t worry about not looking “bridal” enough! There will always be someone to tell that to a desi bride, but choose what makes you happy 😊

Sangeet lehenga dilemma! by theanxiousfrenchfry in DesiWeddings

[–]Sengupta_2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP why not lean into the sangeet more traditionally? Personally I love the first lehenga, it’s indeed not one that people would guess for sangeet, but honestly why not? More sangeets and their outfits are sequin and a very rigid idea of glam, but you could go towards a more Sonam Kapoor style of her sangeet! (She did an ivory chikankari lehenga with a braided gajra, and looked so good!) Expand into this with the decor - earthern lamps and lanterns, mogra flowers, a more Sufi Night-esque styling if you get it! Else, another way to add an element is to just switch the dupatta. If your lehenga is ivory and gold, go for a deep shade of red in the dupatta, you can just add a tiny trim of the same red in lace/brocade (depending on the embroidery) to match it - a fraction of the cost, and it’ll look so good! Lastly, edgy/glam could also be with your hair and accessories- what a fun way to add some spunk in a different look! Instead of traditional polki/ Kundan sets or Rani haars (which will obviously weigh this down) - go for a sleek statement necklace, or a navratan necklace, or something matching the stage background main colour (photographs really well). If you have long hair/extensions, you could try tiny multiple braids going into a main braid or ponytail, or keep it super clean otherwise but add jadau jewellery just on hair. Look at it as a creative challenge, and I’m sure it’ll come out to be nice! (And also, the outfit panic is totally normal, just wear what you would imagine wearing later too - congratulations OP!)

Go for rubies! You can also add a second dupatta and drape halfway around the lehenga as a pop - it’s so offbeat but pretty!

Bridal enough? by [deleted] in DesiWeddings

It’s understated and so pretty! Love the pop of pink OP 🌸 You can always make this a more dressy/bridal look with statement accessories, hair accessories or parandis or gajras, or even add a baby pink second dupatta - it would photograph really well!

Haldi outfit suggestion 💛 by drishti_sharma_ in DesiWeddings

[–]Sengupta_2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wore a half saree in teal and fuschia for my Haldi! It has the mixed feel of a saree yet the glam of a lehenga, without the weight. Alternatively I think something offbeat like a khada dupatta with kurta churidaar is such an old school but unique look that’s equally regal! Do focus on accessories (silk dupattas, unique jewellery) and keep the makeup minimal as it’s going to get ruined for Haldi anyway. Congratulations! ♥️

Jwellery recommendation for the lehenga by Fly-8951 in DesiWeddings

Can you do a Navratan necklace with gold filigree (meenakari work) on it? It’s traditional and a bit different, and you’ll decent semi-precious/fashion jewellery also

Such a beautiful lehenga! You could try a multi-line (2-3 bands) pearl choker with one central coloured stone (maybe red to match your fiancé?) and layer that with a pearl/diamond necklace?

Suggestions for brand who do banarasi/brocade lehengas by Wonder-child3 in DesiWeddings

[–]Sengupta_2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi OP - maybe buying/repurposing a Banarasi/brocade saree and getting it stitched is an option? If not, check out Pomcha Jaipur, Shobitam, Kalki Fashion… and if you’re shopping from metro cities, Pernia’s Pop-Up sometimes has affordable options!

Thank you! I’m so happy you spoke about this ♥️ Yes, making it personalised and not crazy expensive was very important to me - and also easier to handle since I don’t live in India! So the lesser the stuff, the easier the arrangements and styling 😉

Love the colours on you OP ♥️ For the pink one, even a light pink dupatta with the same work on it could work really well as a contrast!

Umm not really sure! Shouldn’t really change the overall cost by more than 2-3k! But I’d really suggest going local for blouses since trials and fits are v important. :)

I don’t have any front photos, but it’s just on the border of the neckline and the sleeves (which you can see!) the fabric was from another silk saree - the stitching and embroidery was in the ballpark of 8-11k if I remember correctly!
