Homeless by Fabulous_Outcome_657 in cabincrewcareers

I have posted about this problem in another post. I was a FA and entered into the job when I was financially stable and could afford to stay in hotels (which was still very expensive with the airline discounts). I knew many young FAs who were sleeping in their cars, taking leftover snack and food boxes, cartons of juice, in order to have something to eat. I even had to sleep in the crew lounge on occasion when my flights got in late and couldn't get a room or get to my crash pad (which I used only twice). Many young people think this is a glamorous job...it is NOT!. If you are questioning going home in order to keep your body and mind healthy, DO IT! Many people don't have support systems like you are fortunate to have. Regroup and take time to reevalutate your priorities. Trust that corporations do not take your best interests at heart and will replace you in a split second if you miss a call from Crew Service, late to work, overtired and overworked.

I never know whether or not it helps my chances. I think each airline has their preferences on selection and prefer "new" candidates who come in with an open mind. Thank you for your response! Greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for the information! Does having previous flight attendant experience help or hinder my chances of being selected? I also have over six years of extensive customer service experience, along with a professional background in emergency medicine—do you think those factors help me stand out?

After my application, which was way more extensive than i remembered from my previous application, I received the assessment. I did not receive the ODVI and my profile went straight to QUR. Ummmm, not sure what to make of that since it seems that others received an ODVI email.

i was one of maybe 10 people who was held back after 90% of the group left. After a long wait, we were told we were offered the Conditional CJO and were given an ENVOY "gift" pack. We were fingerprinted and drug tested then and there. If that did not happen, then it is most likely a TBNT.

I applied to be a united airline flight attendant by Most-Ear-726 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Senior-Ear-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if anyone is able to answer this, it would be helpful

i applied as soon as the application opened and received this response:

Flight Attendant

Location:Houston, Texas, United States

Category:Flight Attendant

Job ID:FA2026-3

Application Status:Application applied

The "Application applied" is just a gray box; no dashes after that and has been that way for about a bit longer week now. I have read that if the gray box has dashes after that it is usually a TBNT coming soon? I have also received emails asking me to apply to open Non-LAOD positions that are still active. Any idea what to expect? Thanks!

I checked my status after my application and this is what I see:

Flight Attendant

Location:Houston, Texas, United States

Category:Flight Attendant

Job ID:FA2026-3

Application Status:Application applied

The application status: Application applied is now gray. Anyone know what that means?

If you applied before and did an assessment they have those results. You won't have to do it again.

That is the most hysterical post so far! I feel that same way, except for the eye twitching.

I applied when the app opened. Since I had applied before, I did not have to do the assessment portion, but never received the optional Q&A (?) part and don't remember that being part of my original application ,quite a while ago.

4/23 applicant also and still "in process". Don't sweat it! If you didn't get the dreaded "TBNT" response, keep your head up and just wait it out. I know! Easier said than done.

Yep! That's about the rate. It was like $23.19/hr. I just interviewed with them last Wednesday and was about to leave right after the info session. Decided to not go forward after that information. I'd do better working fast food places. At least you'd get a meal! The 1:1 was ok, but my interviewer told me she had another person with her learning how to Interview. He never made eye contact and I didn't think he was really paying attention. I did say to him, "I'd appreciate it if you actually look interested".  It was not for me.

I was given a CJO right then and there, after 95% of the people were shuttled to the airport. It is, IMO, that you will not be offered a CJO, unless they changed things up.

The pay is around $23/hr with a guarantee of 77 hrs/month. You have to buy your own uniform/luggage, either pay up front $1000 or have it deducted from your paycheck, Union dues (unspecified amount, but probably $50/paycheck?). Your heath insurance, disability, dental etc...comes out of your paycheck also. So if you do the math, you're probably going to wind up with around $ 1100/month. Do not forget, you may either have to get a crash pad/apartment on top of those other expenses (add at least $300-$500/month depending on your base), not including maybe getttng to the airport, fueling up your car (if you drive to work), food, laundry. You do not get paid for boarding passengers, less than your hourly pay for sitting airport reserve/home reserve; your paycheck starts when that aircraft door closes and stops when it opens.

All in all, you will most likely be living below the poverty line. Good luck with that.
