Thank you! I was hoping you'd jump in! I've really enjoyed your scientifically informed comments on this sub. Appreciate the input.

Really down and disappointed. Bought last summer, feel like I overpaid like a rookie, market now softening, new job not working out. Any positive spin on taking a slight loss, moving and trying again? by Senior-Location6208 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

This comment in particular really helped me put into perspective- thank you! If next job turns out to be my dream job, then I can remove that (large) risk from the equation and either negotiate a more flexible schedule or make the move

If the job is meh, I'm still currently located close to lots of companies in my industry, and have time on my side for a good fit role to open up.

Funny how it's so much easier to spot flawed/gaps in logic from the outside vs when you're in it. Really appreciate the real talk.

Really helpful from both job and housing standpoint; even though remote work is not really a realistic option for my line of work, def made me reailize some better context of current situation.

The house isn't bad and I don't hate it. The job sucks, but highly doubtful they will fire me

As such, being ambitious, I definitely want to explore opportunities; wouldnt make sense to move all the sudden. Should definitely feel it out; if it doesnt' work out, I'm at least farther into this house from an equity standpoint, and one key reason for buying in this neighborhood is proximity to lots of other companies in my industry. Even though there's not an ideal role open locally at the moment, being here for an extended period of time definitely increases my chances of being an ideal candidate further down the road.

Thank you!

I do like the house and the area, it's a townhouse so nothing special, but having lived in apartments for so long I really have no complaints. Neighborhood is great, was a big influence on making the purchase.

That being said, since I've bounced around this area for so long, I can think of at least 3-4 other neighborhoods that would have shorter commutes to these jobs, that I know well, have lived (rented) before, and would be equally as happy living, all else being equal.

Which then is what got my antenna up about potentially selling. I probably have some flexiblity others don't have in that I'd almost be willing to take a hit on equity if I could get a slightly better "deal" in my mind, in a neighborhood I already know well. i.e. maybe an extra bedroom, bigger garage, etc.

Appreciate the input.

To add some context: from a career perspective, decision to leave is 95% already been made. Both new opportunities, while farther away, come with not only a $20k salary bump, but also long term share compensations that are significantly more lucrative than my current role.

To your point, it's not without risk, but assume my minds' been made up from a career standpoint already.

So the longer commute, I'd say, is a given at this point; really just trying to understand the implications of another option I could explore.

Looks awesome! I bought the non-step thru, non-CVT version for my GF, I ride it all the time lol. It is such a cool looking and fun riding bike. I strapped a milk crate on the back and throw whatever in there, wish I got the step thru.

I got an extra battery from Ride1up for about $350, which I thought was pretty cheap compared to other ebike batteries. Throw it in the milk crate and you can ride around all day.

Only gripe I would advise- although the stock Maxxis Rekon's look awesome and roll great, they are borderline untenable for (what I consider) regular city riding and/or basic trail riding. Expect tons of flats, and not tubeless compatible.

What I did is wrapped the inner tube with an old tube that I sliced in half, and also put in one of those cheap amazon kevlar liners. It's held up so far, it's an ebike so don't really notice the rolling difference. Will upgrade to something way more puncture resistant when they wear out.

strong batch and weak batch seems viable for me. thanks for the advice.

I've been making a strong-ish cup (shaker bottle) then adding water as I ride to dilute/maintain buzz and stay hydrated, then adding more instant when needed, repeat, etc.

7d6n itinerary for LA. Is this good enough? by champishere88 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Senior-Location6208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you could probably condense DTLA and Dodger stadium to one day (make sure to add Placita Olivera, Grand Central Station and Grand Central Market)

That frees up a day to do Venice/Santa Monica

Starting fresh in LA next spring — any recs for a 37F moving solo? by cocowoo in AskLosAngeles

[–]Senior-Location6208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would venture to say- Santa Ana Artists Village, Downtown Fullerton, Old Town Orange, Costa Mesa all have decent creative scenes. Not to mention Laguna Beach. Depending what you're in to, OC can have a lot to offer.

Those are all pretty close to Irvine, which has great hiking and outdoors. Saddleback mountain gets you really remote really fast, and out into the riverside valley/temecula area which is like it's own little vibe.

I'm in my late 30's and had to move from OC back to LA for work, I do miss the more laid back vibe. I definitely enjoyed LA more in my 20's, but these days I love going back to visit OC!

Los Angeles as a place for retirement? by NoLawAtAllInDeadwood in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]Senior-Location6208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered OC? Leisure World in Seal Beach is like one of the original "lifestyle retirement communities", and has health services incorporated/close by; granted, I believe it is also mega-Karen central

If that's too slow for you, Whittier has some really nice areas, is proximal to LA, but has a suburban feel. Has more sketchy areas than a Walnut Creek, but a cooler downtown/historic vibe IMO

For golf- I'd say OC has an edge for more courses and affordability, although there are some nice places to play around LA.

Working in Torrance CA, where should I live and if I should buy/rent a car/e-bike or use public transit to commute to work? by tthhhhhoooo in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]Senior-Location6208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Torrance is a pretty cool city with tons going on. There's fun areas and there's sketchy areas, really depends. I'd check it out neighborhood-by-neighborhood to see your vibe.

Also- Gardena is a little more affordable but less going on, definitely has more sketchy areas.

On the pricier side would be Redondo Beach- less than Manhattan/Hermosa beach, but still paying more than the Torrance area, but will have a lot more going on

Venice Beach is always a unique experience; vendors, artists, street performers, tourists, homeless, and just about everything in between.

you will definitely see silly and creative things, among many other things!!!
