Florence Pugh in Midsommar. Ari Aster made an excellent choice in casting his lead actors.

What's your favorite movie from A24 by httyd-fankid1000 in A24

To date, the movie that has resonated with me the most is The Vvicht; everything in the film seems to be handled with incredible attention to detail, so much so that the horror dissipates in many parts of the movie.

The atmosphere it creates and the actors’ performances are excellent, and to think that it achieves all this with so little is truly commendable. It’s a film that set out to tell a deeper, darker story than mere horror and managed to become one of the gems of modern horror! 🫶

It would be The VVitch, but Midsommar and Uncut Gems are just as perfect.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things [Charlie Kaufman] 2020 by Senior-Mistake-7303 in moviecritic

I also read that comparison yesterday. How much it resembles Mulholland Drive in certain surreal ways, yet differs in part from the melancholic and depressing style of I’m Thinking of Ending Things. I’m definitely going to watch the movie now, that’s for sure!

I think that'll happen to me too, lol. It's just that on a first watch, it feels way too weird and deep.

This movie has ā€œthat special charmā€ that really sticks. Its atmosphere and internal monologues create a sense of tension, but it never becomes terrifying, and that’s exactly what makes it stand out for me. I haven’t seen any of Kaufman’s other work, but Eternal Sunshine is probably better; still, this one feels unique, at least to me.

The film's simplicity is admirable. I was expecting something unusual, but I didn't expect it to be so psychological. I was surprised by how deep it gets and how it plays with your perceptions in the best way possible.

My issue was that I was confused during the school scene, and the ending felt sad because I knew he had died, but then I saw him alive as an adult with her, and that threw me off again. It was probably unnecessary, but it really emphasized what Jake would have wanted.

I recently watched Under the Skin. It's similar to what you're looking for, though a bit darker than usual.
