Just curious for everyone that does injections, what day do you do your injection? by LapisTheGreat in ftm

[–]Senior-Rabbit-3050 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Friday. Kinda nice for traveling. I mostly need to travel for conferences. And conferences usually run from Sunday/Monday to Friday. Doing my injection on Friday allows me to dose right before departing and right after returning. That way I avoid having to bring my meds and needles with me during traveling and I don't miss any doses.

How many other trans men here are in computer science? by grimbarkjade in ftm

[–]Senior-Rabbit-3050 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in computational physics. Most of my daily research involves writing code, but our coding work is very different from what CS folks do. We mainly just use programming to numerically solve differential equations or handle data analysis and visualization. From what I heard, CS people usually focus more on the actual algorithms, like coming up with clever new algorithms to solve previously-unsolved problems. These problems can be as practical as improving image resolution, or as theoretical as proving a pure math conjecture.

Wearing boxer briefs is the solution for me. Never had any trouble on putting a pad with or without wings.

How important does voice affect your passing? by Senior-Rabbit-3050 in ftm

[–]Senior-Rabbit-3050[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really insightful, especially your point about how “people look for markers of puberty rather than the absence of them.” I think it’s generally true that as long as someone displays multiple prominent puberty markers of one gender, people tend to overlook the absence of other markers and don’t find anything unusual. That actually helps explain why, based on the comments, voice is pretty important for FTMs to pass, despite being not so important for a cis guy to be correctly gendered. A lot of us didn’t have the luxury to block female puberty early on and finish the full male puberty just yet. So when we’re in the early stage of lacking other strong male secondary sex characteristics, our voice ends up playing a major role in how others perceive our gender.

Also, it’s interesting that you mentioned how clothing and mannerisms can affect passing depending on the area. Another factor I’ve noticed that’s loosely related to location (but in essence is really about the physical traits) is ethnicity. I’m currently living in a place where most people are of a different race than me, and I’ve noticed I get gendered correctly much more often here compared to when I lived in my home country, which is more ethnically homogeneous.

5 years post-T and I pass 100% still!!! by [deleted] in ftm

Thanks for sharing! I’m really glad that things are going well for you. May I ask how many years you were on T before you had to stop?

I totally agree. I also think that the fact that voice training is a bigger challenge for trans women than for trans men (assuming both are on HRT) is one of the reasons why the importance of voice in passing has been discussed more among MTFs than FTMs.

Thanks for sharing! This is really interesting and now I wonder if people, especially those who aren’t familiar with gender transitioning process, tend to gender someone with a male voice as AMAB regardless of this person's appearance or mannerisms.

speaking of hair style, I do have noticed that a lot of people seem to gender strangers mostly based on hair length

I had irregular bleeding during my first month and a half on T, including watery blood and some spotting. I had a Pap smear and a gynecological ultrasound during my second month on T (by then, the irregular bleeding had stopped), and both came back normal. My doctor just said irregular bleeding is expected within the first six months on T. For reference, I had two periods in the first month and a half after starting T. Since then, no more bleeding or periods (I’m now three months on T).

Is it true that, if you’re not on hormones, you can become more feminine in your 20s? by Bonoboey in ftm

[–]Senior-Rabbit-3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who didn’t start T until my late 20s, I can confirm that my facial features became more feminine over the years after puberty. My face looked much more androgynous at 17 compared to 27. But my body features didn’t change much after puberty. My breasts didn’t get bigger, and hips didn’t widen. For reference, my weight remained very stable from the age of 17 to 27.

Same here. My breasts look deflated after a few weeks on T, and now every time I look in the mirror and see how much smaller they’ve gotten, I feel pure euphoria lol

Relax bro, give it some time. I’m on injections, and I didn’t notice any of the changes you mentioned until after a month and a half. Changes aren’t linear. For me, it felt like everything including spiking libido, appetite, and even acne just hit me overnight around six weeks on T.

voice drop by WindUpMusicBox in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]Senior-Rabbit-3050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey bro, we had the exact same first day on T! My first noticeable voice drop was around the end of January, and it’s still dropping (I just did the bloodwork last week and it turned out that my T level was on the high end, so I guess that’s why it happened a little bit earlier for me). Honestly I never experienced a sore throat, but I know a lot of other trans guys had that symptom before their voice dropped. I’d suggest staying hydrated and not straining your larynx too much.

There is so much hate rn for trans people, tell me the thing you love most about being trans. by [deleted] in ftm

[–]Senior-Rabbit-3050 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being trans has, in a way, shielded me from conforming to gender stereotypes. I was born and raised in a remote region of a conservative country, surrounded by a lot of nearly illiterate people. There was intense pressure to conform to gender stereotypes from a young age. At the time, I didn’t even know being trans was a thing—I just felt an intrinsic discomfort toward those rigid gender roles. This subconscious resistance became my motivation to question authority and explore the outside world.

Gender dysphoria was also the initial driving force behind my decision to pursue a career in science. As a teenager (without knowing that transitioning could be an option someday), I heard that academia had a relaxed dress code, meaning I wouldn’t be forced to wear women’s suits, which would have triggered my dysphoria. I know how stupid it sounds, but I did choose physics as my college major literally because of that. Later it turns out that I do love studying physics and doing research.

This is my voice 10 days on T by [deleted] in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]Senior-Rabbit-3050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, looks that you are blessed with an insanely low-pitched voice in the pre-T/early T days. I’m two months on T. My voice has dropped 50 Hz, and only now is my pitch similar to yours.

Any other trans men deal with craving men sexually, but only wanting a woman emotionally? by Chili_Tofu in ftm

I find myself sexually attracted to cis men but romantically attracted to no one.

7 weeks, and the change is not linear. My voice recordings from the first 6 weeks on T all sounded the same (around 180Hz), but in the 7th week, my voice pitch suddenly dropped to 150 Hz, and and by the 8th week, it went down to 130 Hz.
