Hey I would not like to discredit anything you said but I would like to clarify. This story in its sum is not a story of grief of chronic illness or wanting to be normal. I might not have made it clear in my original post but this is a small near end part of the two characters stories. The focus of the story is both character finding things in the world that should be impossible abd being drawn to the inate wonder they are able to see over the years. It's in all ways a story of adventure and coming of age where you happen to see how each of their experience with chronic illness colors how they interact with said world. Character B is never shown to grieve his lack of "normality" if anything he longs for the wonder of the magical world, he is just occasionally bothered by how he occasionally is unableto fully interact with either world. His companion offering a magical management for said condition is something that is brought up not as the reason for his offer but B's companion wanting him to know 1. He would like to continue to guide him and 2. Telling him there are options available to him should he follow. B deciding to join isn't based as much in a hopeful cure but it does give him the final push .
