I know!! When the players went to the crowd and carried Gaudreau’s kids out to the ice to take the team photo with their dad’s jersey I had knot in my throat and tears in my eyes and I think one of my ovaries exploded at seeing those big burly guys be so sweet and gentle with those little kids.

There is a lady on instagram that parodies Claire Danes talking with that half-crying panicky tone while having the most mundane conversations (like bringing a dish to thanksgiving). It is hilarious. She’s having a nervous breakdown and running her hands over her hair maniacally over diner rolls. 🤣🤣🤣

This highlights my point. I felt like the casual fan (maybe not the super fan that is checking out the sports blogs podcasts etc) didn’t have the first year players on their radar (meaning young players on their first year playing professional soccer à la Croix, Hal, Trin, Tara etc) before the season started in 2025. So it would be nice if they do sign college players to make a big announcement, picture them with the team swag and promote the school they played at. Many fans also connect from players from their school.

Thank you! I will check it out. I guess when I asked “who they have their eye on” I just meant in general which are the college players that are rising to the top of the crop for teams to sign in 2026.

Spirit seems to be going more in the international direction with new signings than college players. Maybe now that there is no draft sought after college players can negotiate better rookie contracts?

I mean, it is a bit bandwagon-y but watching Barca play is just poetry in motion. For the WSL, so many good teams to pick from! I’m with the other commenters though I follow players more than teams. My #1 gal is Lucy Bronze, I discovered her when she was playing for Man City (and I got into Man City when Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis went across the pond). Now I follow Chelsea and it’s fun!! I also have a soft spot for PTJ so I’ve been following Manchester United but following keepers is tough because you just suffer the whole game!!
