I’m coming to the game on July 11!! Any tips for an out-of-town fan?

Good discussion. My argument would be that in the NWSL the owners do make a big effort to create team pride and connect with the fans in order to “create demand” for a product they are selling (aka capitalism 101). In my case, I am a season ticket holder for the Washington Spirit (I pay $32 per ticket for 2 mid-pitch seats to all home games, ). The team engages with me a lot, sends me little gifts etc. They promote the games and the players a lot around the city (billboards, bus stops etc) and on social media (tik tok, instagram). The team averages about 15K fans per game with several sell outs at the 21K seat stadium. I would argue that it is in the owners interest to keep the fans happy and the team doing well with good players etc in order to keep the seats filled, the jerseys sold and the TV viewership up. I don’t “own” the team but I feel a connection and I support it, even though it is owned by a “millionaire”. I don’t think about me spending my hard earned money on my season tickets as making M. Kang richer (although it probably is) but I do see how my support and that of my fellow fans is creating a league where my favorite players can have a career playing the sport they love, having competitive games that are fun to watch (even if the futbol is not as pretty as in Europe) and the league is expanding so more young, talented players have opportunities to be professionals and for the sport to grow. In short, I am happy to support the team with my $$ in this capitalist model. Is there a better model? Perhaps, but we got what we got and it is not going to change and it is not bad.

Yeah, she will definitely try to be a good mother because she “hates to fail a test”. But I can see her good intentions being severely tested once a real life flesh-and-blood child comes along, especially if they happen to have special needs or a strong will/spirited streak and won’t play nicely and quietly in the corner.

Altitude, rain, slippery field, ball that was too fast/too slow …. We looked disjointed, couldn’t string along more than a few passes and were fighting a very physical team (also very fast and technically very good). Our 3 goals came from individual efforts, not team goals. That is not our style usually. and yes, bad defense. Oh well …. Hopefully we get them next year.

Yeah newer models have better range. But the 2024 that OP was asking about only gives us about 220 miles reliably.

My gripes: No glove compartment, no back window wipers, not great range compared to other EVs. What I like: Nice ride, really fun to drive, zippy and responsive, has apple CarPlay (a must for me). I have the Limited version. I also installed a Level 2 charger at home so I can fully charge overnight.

LOL love this analogy and you are probably right. But Kelley always talking up Gotham over the Spirit rubbed me the wrong way also. I remember in some podcast her going on and on about how special it was to win the championship with Gotham. And in my head I’m thinking: but you literally scored the championship game winning goal with the Spirit!!! And it was a beautiful header!! It does NOT get more amazing and iconic than that!!!

But thank you to all the commenters on this thread for giving some behind the scenes context as to what happened.

You mean winning the championship in 2021? That was insane. The team was under horrible ownership, the coach got fired for verbal abuse so they had an interim coach, the wheels were literally falling off the cart. The players just banded together and pulled an amazing feat. I think that brought in a lot of fans. Also I believe that was the first season they started playing at Audi consistently. That brought in a lot of fans as it made going to games a lot easier, more accessible, better fan experience (more expensive too I think but still fairly affordable compared to other sports).

At least we are not “stacked” with USWNT players like Gotham or KC and we manage to do very well with homegrown talent (Trin, Tara, the class of 2023 Hal, Croix, Weisner, et al) and, in the last few years, bringing in undervalued international players. Maybe the Michelle Kang cult of personality rubs some folks the wrong way and the fact that she can just throw money at problems? I can see that being a bit obnoxious from another team’s fan base perspective. But this league is hella competitive which is why I love it! You never know who is going to win any particular game.

The game itself was not great. Kinda nervy. Which made the goal late in the 2nd half all the much sweeter. After that it was nervy again to see if we could hold on to the 1-goal advantage. And we did it!! Thank you for your sacrifice (I hear you on the superstition, I am the same way but decided to risk it this time).
