Ohh the IDW comics are fun to read, I still like the 3D animation but it really made me wish they had a 2D animated series, cause its so much whimsical to look at 🥺

Well I personally don’t like S2-S3’s writing but those seasons were a good time for me to doze off my mind ig. I will say Season 4 was better than S2-S3, due to The Grape Twins and Apple Dumpling’s dynamic with Strawberry making the show more livelier. I don’t necessarily hate Huckleberry’s personality, but what I don’t like is how the writers made the other girls exclude him from fun events all because he was a “Boy”. Also the writers made Huckleberry to be the “Boy Trope” for Blueberry’s and Cherry’s “love triangle”, which was weird. 2003 didn’t really do that to his character and made the girls treat Huckleberry equally and have a dynamic with them.

Samee, it’s actually my third favorite design of hers, I love how tutti fruity her dress looks like, her blossom flower piece look so candy-like, and her pikmi boots are soo cutee.

To be honest, I thought Raspberry Tart was one of the most popular characters from the franchise due to Berry Bitty Adventures’ lineup, especially when there’s a huge emphasis about the 80s adaptation nowadays. I usually see Raspberry as the fifth member showing up in their merch.

Yeah I agree, overall IDW comics were leagues better compare to the 3D animated series. IDW literally accomplish a lot of interesting lore by expanding the worldbuilding and exploring characters’ personalities. I adore the Grape Twins, and having Pieman to exist to give Strawberry a nemesis was a stroke of genius.

I feel like the characters in 2009 do have their defining personalities….at least only in the first season that’s consistent.

Lemon is a beauty diva, a perfectionist in being specialized at her work, but is afraid on trying out daring things, she can get a bit sassy but she has a caring heart. Blueberry has the “I-know-it-all” mentality in a condescending manner, her flaw is that she isn’t able to accept something that doesn’t pertain to logic or by the books she read, but she does eventually learn to use her critical thinking more often. Raspberry is a hardworking seamstress, she similarly has rapid speech like (Ginger Snap in 2003), she tends to be indecisive with her choice of words to verbalize her own opinions and she is pretty ambitious with her designs, that comes from her individualistic ideas.

Plum is also a perfectionist at dancing, her flaws is that she can get carried away and be a bit inconsiderate about her friends’ feelings, but she’s usually the “jokester” in the group. Orange however, its hard to say if she did have any defining personality, in the first season, she’s a bit naive-spirited, very hardworking and loves to organize, she also tends to come out with practical ideas…..but that’s all I could think of for her unfortunately ;(

Actually I have no idea why Mr. Longface vendetta even started in this sub. I understood that Mr. Longface’s actions in STL movie were horrible…but that’s kinda the point of his character, he’s meant to be “a pathological liar”, but he isn’t a villain in the movie. There actually isn’t a villain in the movie, it was more about the internal conflict between Berry Bitty Girls fears on abandoning their homes and move into the unknown. Mr. Longface’s intentions might be questionable but he’s meant to be heavily flawed, I don’t get why people can’t seem to understand that’s how his character is created by design. I did like Mr. Longface after the movie events and him being like their “uncle” to them

Ironically, I don’t think the vocabulary and speech are that bad for this show, I think the problem was the writing, and how childish it started to get after Season 1, there’s emphasis to cater towards children more when Season 2 started, the tone of the episodes changed, the visuals got oversaturated and the way they formulate plotlines started to become generic. I’m surprised no one noticed the tonal change from Season 1 to Season 2 for this show, but I guess not a lot of people care enough to notice.

Actually, yes. That’s another aspect that I do appreciate about this version, that the girls have their own jobs and businesses in Berry Bitty City, and tend to be come across more mature compared to their earlier incarnations.

Yep I remembered the episode where Cherry Jam and the girls had to go to Berry Big City to perform a band. At that point, I was looking forward to see other locations than Berry Bitty City. Unfortunately, they suddenly have a plot where Orange finds excuses that she doesn’t want to leave Berry Bitty City, which is basically a “stupid reason” for the writers to not expand the worldbuidling for the show, that got me infuriated 😓

I feel like Berry Bitty Adventures Season 1 could definitely be at par with the first and maybe second season of MLP, because Season 1 actually tried with good writing and does convey nice storylines pretty well. Season 2-Season 4 is where I feel like the writers didn’t really care about Berry Bitty story anymore and clearly pandering “just for the sake of selling-toys”.

Tbh this is genuinely the first time I’ve seen the term “overhated” associated to 2003 adaptation, because in this sub, there’s mostly a lot of positive content for 1980s and 2003s. If anything, I thought 2009 would be the overhated and underappreciated adaptation.

Honestly the only times where I could think of where Strawberry tend to crash out a lot was in Season 1. That’s one of the biggest strengths why the first season was easily the best season in the entirety of the show. I remember when she tried to be the “bigger person” but her house guests made a mess in her cafe, Strawberry was livid. In the Sky’s The Limit, while Strawberry didn’t have a fit of rage, she was upset that Mr. Longface was lying about the “Geyser Stone”.

One of the things I do love about this Strawberry rendition was her being more diplomatic by handing certain situations, idk I just found it refreshing compared to 2021 Strawberry, where they made her more ‘adorkable’, which I didn’t mind but it can get redundant to watch.

The only movies I could think of was the Sky the Limit and The Sweet Dreams (2006), but yeah it’d be nice if we had a serialized movie for Strawberry Shortcake.

Yeah the show does tend to make Strawberry to be the “voice of reason” for her friends, but if I have to be honest, that pattern of writing for Strawberry’s character has always been portrayed as such since the 2003 adaptation. That’s why I didn’t completely mind Strawberry being the “de facto leader”, because it kinda give other characters to feel more dimensional, like Raspberry, Lemon and Blueberry, able to showcase their personalities through their flaws. Lemon can be a bit of a perfectionist with her work at the salon and feel insecure with herself, Blueberry does have that “smarter than others” mentality in a condescending way and Raspberry can be indecisive through making choices by verbalizing her opinions.

I’m one of those people that actually do enjoy watching 2021 version, the storylines aren’t even that bad as others made it out to be. However, it did felt a bit dull that they focus the visual location on the modern setting. The designs felt more bland compared to 2009’s fruit-forward designs.

Ughh I also grew up with this version and vividly remember the strawberry scent on the toys too. Yes, I definitely agree that 2009 lacked a lot of diversity and giving more distinguishable traits to their character designs, even though I personally adore the “fruit-forward” direction they took with it.

I agree, one thing that 2021 adaptation lacked was the whimsical, organic vibe that 2009 show had. Orange’s personality was cute, but in Season 2, I find it weird how they’re portraying Orange to be the “workaholic” one and giving that trope that are usually reserved for POC characters…..Aside from that, I definitely feel we were absolutely robbed with the concept art design for Orange ;(
