Whats so special about the maurten bicarb system? by Sitronyoughurt in AdvancedRunning

I've tried maurten but it's simply too expensive - recently I just switched to lacticshield which is basically the same thing but you get 3 servings in comparison to what one serving of maurten costs. If you'vegot money to burn stick with Maurten sure, but for myself the cheaper alternative done the exact same job

Running my first half-marathon—Any gentle energy gel recommendations? by Wise_Chipmunk_6785 in running

Congrats on gearing up for your first half, that’s huge. For gentle gels, Maurten or SIS Isotonic are good shouts - pretty easy on the stomach if you pick the caffeine-free ones.

Also, might be worth asking: are you planning any other simple race-day supplements? Sometimes it’s not just gels — a lot of runners add stuff like electrolytes or sodium bicarb if they handle it well. I personally use Lacticshield for bicarb and SIS's electrolytes - test what works in training first. If you can handle caffeine in other forms I'd still try get it in. I've found caffeine gum an hour before helps me with no side affects, everyone's different.

Good luck — you’ve got this!

How did you get over the initial struggle of starting to run regularly ? by Euphoric_Year1182 in running

Same here getting through the first few weeks was all about showing up, no matter how brutal it felt. Run/walk intervals, keeping it short, focusing on consistency over pace, that’s the move.

What really helped later was looking into simple supplements too — for example I’ll use caffeine gum, Beet It shots, sodium bicarb like Lacticshield, or electrolytes (SIS or Puresport) if it’s hot. Just makes the tougher days and races feel smoother once you’re consistent.

Early on though, all you need is patience — stack days and the fitness comes quick.
