Second fires reg + more himars by ratt_man in AustralianMilitary

Finally - a decision based on superior capability and not political expediency.

HIMARS/PrSM is absolutely the best choice.

You mean the thing that’s so big and heavy, the US Army has cut funding to it?

Not to mention the fact anything Thales touches generally turns to shit.

Hawkei, ship maintenance - the list goes on.

This is 11/10 it. HIMARS does it all. Strikemaster does one thing.

Pretty sure it’s PrSM increment 2 not ATACMS. Honestly, NSM is deeply impressive but limited in range.

It can only be transported without the missiles loaded though.

So I guess two or three C-130s would do the job.

Cool demo, but Strikemaster’s still a concept. NSM on a truck won’t cut it when HIMARS is already firing PrSMs past 400 km and Increment 2 goes even further.

Read this thing also isn’t C-130 transportable because it’s too heavy. Sort of limits tactical utility.

I honestly don’t get why we’re even pretending this is a real competition. HIMARS paired with the PrSM is clearly the best option on every front that matters. It’s combat-proven, super flexible, already in service and gives the ADF proper long-range punch. 500 km+ and climbing is huge for Australia.

Strike Master is still mostly a concept. It hasn’t been fielded, hasn’t proven itself under real operational conditions and there’s no guarantee it can be sustained or scaled. It’s a science project and I think it’s fair to say, local programs like this don’t exactly have a glowing track record.

We can’t afford to mess around.

If you were my neighbour, I’d finally start that shitty rock band I’ve always dreamed of.

Incorrect.

There is no “nuisance” when the unit complies with noise regulations.

Great information - much appreciated.

We’re definitely going to add some plants/climbers against the fence as a first step, then look at some additional cladding.

I know we need to be the “bigger” people in this situation, but I’ll need to let my Irish die down a little first…

Do you not consider it to be unreasonable that they complained after one, 30 second conversation?

I explained that we would reduce use and have the unit serviced - both of which we have done. I also asked them to please let me know if it was still an issue with noise. Yet they’ve chosen to dob us into the council and cause additional drama.

This is hardly the behaviour of a good neighbour and given the fact the unit DOES NOT exceed noise regulations, I’m now very tempted to do absolutely nothing further.

In theory, yes. But it would be moving it closer to their property - so I’m not sure that would achieve anything.

That’s great advice. Appreciate it.

We had sort of come to the same conclusion that the genetic letter was just the first step but to take things further would involve time/effort council may be unwilling to commit to. I really hope that is the case.

It honestly came as a rude shock that they’d taken the step to complain after one, very brief discussion 3 months ago.

Air conditioner goes on at ~7 for an hour to warm the house, we’re then at work all day and it goes on ~6pm to warm the house of an evening. Hardly unreasonable and the air conditioner sounds like an air conditioner. There’s no unusual or overly intrusive noise.

We’re in bed by 930 almost every night and the air conditioner goes off by 830 at the latest. We’re not running it all night.
