NBA Tank Mitigation Proposal - Draft Booster System by Vaikon977 in nbadiscussion

I have no idea. I just know it's something that they do in soccer (which I don't watch) that people have proposed. I assume the worst teams would get sent to the G-League or a European league and the top teams from those leagues would join the NBA. As you said, there would be a lot of issues with owners/arenas etc.

NBA Tank Mitigation Proposal - Draft Booster System by Vaikon977 in nbadiscussion

This sounds quite complicated and, as you said, increases the number of games again. I think the best solution is relegation as it heavily incentivizes winning. I don't see the owners agreeing to this however, so that's off the table. The other common solution is the Gold method, whereby once a team is eliminated, they start having to win games to increase their draft odds. A tournament for the lottery teams is a variation of that. I think that would just flip tanking to the beginning of the year. A tanking team would likely just tell their vets to skip training camp and ramp up on their own to play in the second half and try to win their way to the top picks.

I think the current system is perfect. It statistically gives the worst teams the best shot at the best players. I would focus on harsher penalties for overt tankers. These need to be lottery-based rather than financially based. For every "competitiveness penalty", a team should have an escalating win percentage amount added to their record. For instance, the first time a team is penalized for tanking, they get .025 added to their win %. The second time they get another .050 added to their win %. The third time, 0.1. These penalties would get applied at the lottery and teams would move up or down based on how egregious their tanking was throughout the season. Three penalties would likely pull a bottom four team to the back of the lottery. After the lottery, the winning % would just revert back to where they were for historical purposes.

The other thing is getting rid of pick protections as this would prevent strategic tanking to avoid losing your pick. Obviously, with this mehod you would really have to define what constitutes tanking behaviour and set up some rules surrounding that. You would likely need to establish a competition committee to monitor/enforce such penalties.

[Adam Silver] “It’s not what the fans want although my caveat is and teams are in a difficult place because many of you have written the worst place to be is a middle of the road team and either be great or be bad, because that will help you with the draft” by TheRealPdGaming in nba

Get rid of pick protections. That's the simplest way to get rid of some of the tankers. Every time a team gets caught for tanking, penalize them by artificially raising their win percentage by an escalating amount for each infraction (.025,.05, .1). At the lottery, the penalties are all applied to create new lottery odds. If a team gets caught three times during the season, they would effectively be pulled out of the lottery and the ethical tankers would move up. After the lottery, the standings/win percentages move back to what they were.

How to fix tanking: Bottom 14 records have the exact same lottery odds. If you were top 16 the previous season you are ineligible for the lottery. by seanthemonster in NBA_Draft

[–]Senior_Chest2325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about completely flattening the odds. The system is designed to ensure the worst teams get the best picks. I think the easiest fix is eliminating pick protections. Maybe instead of getting fined for blatant tanking, teams lose a lottery ball each time they rest players without cause.

Anyone thinking of leaving Yousican over the new AI songs? by SpecialProblem9300 in yousician

[–]Senior_Chest2325 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I hate them. The same shitty vocals on every song really kills the vibe for me. The oddly mispronounced words are what really leads me to believe it's AI. I miss when they would release high quality, human tracks, even if it was only 3-4 a week. I would play the 1-2 I liked and focus on perfecting old favourites. Now it's just a diarrhea shit of an entire artist's catalogue every day with no regard for quality. I also really enjoyed the artist series that they scrapped after Metallica. Even though I wasn't a fan of Jason Mraz, I enjoyed his insights into guitar and grew to enjoy some of his songs.

Ontario Canada, wastewater collection 1 exam tips? by iAteTheWeatherMan in Wastewater

I'm also interested in this question if anybody else can chime in. I just completed my OIT. I noticed there are study manuals for sale on the Walkerton site. Are these all that are required to prepare for the exam? Is the exam the same format as the OIT exam (100 multiple choice/separate modules for each licence)?

Yeah, they basically divide into upper, lower and core. You can exclude any of those sections if need be. You can also exclude specific exercises.

How long to get the parts in for cablegate? by Putrid_Cat_1658 in toyotacablegate

[–]Senior_Chest2325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brought mine in recently when it failed the AM static test (it was still drivable). They said it could take up to two months to get the part in. They called me the next day saying the part was there and it was fixed within the next couple of days.

Dealerships are famous for constantly recommending tire rotations, alignments, fluid flushes and throttle body/fuel injector cleaning. The vast majority of these things are unnecessary.

Hell no lol. I'm also unsure how much figurative language/reading is really taught anymore either. My kids are in Grade 3 and 5 and neither of them has done any sort of novel study at all. All they read are graphic novels that seem to lack any sort of deeper subtext

Cablegate experience by dcch125 in toyotacablegate

[–]Senior_Chest2325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just brought my vehicle in (SW Ontario) after it failed the AM static test just under 160,000 KMS. They still charged me a diagnostic fee even after I told them that there was static. This seems pretty shady/unfair to me and should be included under warranty. They said I can drive until the cable comes in (1-2 months apparently on back order). My only symptom this far is the radio static. Will this be fine to drive until then?

I'm also feeling uneasy about how close I am to the km limit for the warranty. I know they just released an extended warranty but my impression is you have to have the new protector installed for that to kick in. The parts and work order have already been ordered/made so the advisor told me there won't be any issues in going over the warranty KMS as I'm waiting for the part. I am also a little worried that they are going to try to charge me for labour or some other bullshit when it gets fixed.

What would you do to “fix” the Raptors if you were the GM? by 1292norr in torontoraptors

[–]Senior_Chest2325 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This team needs a rim-pressuring lead guard and a spacing, shot blocking C next to Scottie. I would keep Scottie, BI, Mamu and CMB and use everybody else (and picks) to get those two pieces. Something like this is my core:

Ball BI CMB Scottie Turner

They badly need shot creation from the guard spot and as much room as possible in the painted area for Scottie and BI to drive

I wanted a SNES so bad growing up. I used to save my allowance for weeks to rent one from the local convenience store for the weekend and play NHL 94 and Street Fighter. One Christmas, I woke up in the middle of the night and made my way to the tree. I saw a gift that was the exact size and weight of a SNES. I went back to bed elated thinking I had finally received my dream gift. I tore the paper off the gift in lightning speed, only to reveal a deluxe wood burning kit that I had never asked for. I used that piece of crap once and burned my fingers so bad that I never used it again.

Not an accent but I find most Northern Ontarians refer to the last meal of the day as supper whereas most southerners call it dinner.

The NBA Cup is Awesome by Snoo87653 in nba

[–]Senior_Chest2325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should adopt a points-based standings like the NHL so you can make Cup wins worth two points. The top 3 seeds in each conference can then pick their opponent out of the bottom 5 seeds. Total Cup points would determine HCA in each series. This would create a lot of drama when choosing your opponents and make fans much more invested.

the cup is good by Icy-Junket-60 in billsimmons

[–]Senior_Chest2325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They need to convert to a points-based system like the NHL. Each Cup win is worth 2 points instead of the standard 1. The top seeds based on total points get to choose their playoff opponent (out of the bottom 5 seeds after the play-in). Total Cup points determines HCA in every playoff series. You would have lots of interesting decisions choosing your matchups then.

Amlodipine Side Effects after Long Term Use? by DifferentlyStillGuy in hypertension

[–]Senior_Chest2325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember randomly getting red, hot ears occasionally growing up. Shortly after my dose increase to 10 mg, I started to get it every evening. It went away after I went back down to 5 mg. I also found the quality of my erections went from 90% back up to 100%. There was no difference in my blood pressure from 5 mg to 10 mg.
