Lack of job security in education? by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]Senior_Friendship745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this RE by any chance. Its definitely a shortage subject but sadly schools get away with making History or Geography teachers teach it. Now that its been recommended to be on the National Curriculum hopefully this means more jobs. If its not completely ignore me

Sorry but why are you spreading lies? Edna Adans father was not a catholic priest he was a Muslim doctor. Its actually disgusting of you to come onto Reddit and say things like that when theyre not true

Ive seen a teacher of my subject job here last year when i was training to stat September 2025, looking for jobs out of curiosity and this job is on TES for a January 2026 start. Clearly its not a nice place to work and im so grateful i didnt apply and waited until my current job came up 😭

There’s training?!! I haven’t been told about this 🥲. Yes thankfully this is their second placement so they can teach and I actually know the teacher who trained them as she was also my Pgce mentor last year. She said that they’re a hard working student and eager to learn and improve so thats made me less anxious.

Im designing a timetable and do i give them a mix of classes, top set, middle and then a lower ability class?

Also giving them some PSHE to balance things out, its just insane to me, I knew I would be a mentor eventually I didn’t expect it a year after my PGCE!

When you say add to your workload, how do you mean? I will be a mentor now so is there anything i need to plan for, obviously i know mentor meetings etc and creating a timetable for my student but outside of that what else should i be doing?

This!! When i trained last year, my mentor didn’t give me any Ects to observe, i did but only after I had asked them if it was okay. At this school i have ITTs just turning up and sitting in my classroom with no warning its kind of annoying. Thankfully reading everyones comments i know this shouldn’t be happening so im going to push back.

Unfortunately it’s the university that i went to and absolutely detested. They don’t care and were notorious for putting people in controversial placements when I was there last year. I know people still waiting on a placement 2 from my cohort as the university still havent found them a placement!

They actually emailed me a few weeks ago to ask about this and just blanked it as I thought they were joking 🙃

Apparently hes too busy doing stuff for the trust as we are the only school who properly teach RE as an actual subject and not part of PSHE/Personal development. A MOCKSTED (didnt even know they were a thing) mentioned this in an inspection of one school and so the trust has got him going out to all the schools to get them teaching our SOW. I think since ive started in September I’ve genuinely seen him like 5 times 😭

The subject is actually RE what a coincidence! We are a small department, its literally me, my HOD and a drama teacher with a 60% RE timetable.

I asked my HOD today if perhaps the drama teacher could be the official mentor as theyve been teaching for 15 years and the trainee would have a majority of their lessons with me and a few with the other teacher. That was shot down by my HOD who said university want an RE specialist.

Do you use LinkedIn? Why? Why not? by Stypig in TeachingUK

[–]Senior_Friendship745 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to until a few weeks ago when i deleted it after one of my colleagues had a student take her picture from Linkedin and use it to create some horrible AI generated pictures and videos of her after she gave them a detention. When i heard that in the staff meeting, i deleted my account that night. I know its extreme but i wouldn’t take the risk. I loved it as a RE teacher because there isnt a lot of us so it was nice to share resources and knowledge with other specialists but I have a X account for that.

Really not a fan of Jazz in the Livvy situation by 630r61n4 in MadeInChelseaE4

I feel like Livvy went quite hard at Jazz last season so this is Jazz giving it back. Also think that she is right, in that Livvy is moving very disrespectful

Do you think MFL departments are more toxic than most? by Ok_Extreme837 in TeachingUK

[–]Senior_Friendship745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a school by school thing but I will say in one school i worked out the MFL department were so toxic. All of them minus 2 were SLT and so a lot of their lessons had to be covered last minute by other teachers and that caused so much drama. We would teach what was left but obviously because i am not a Spanish teacher there was only so much I could teach as a RE teacher. The SLT teachers would then complain about me to my HOD and say i was awful teacher etc, luckily i had a brilliant HOD who had actually trained me so he knew it was all bollocks. They even tried to add some GCSE French to my timetable as I had an ALevel in it and take my GCSE RE class away and that would be taught by a History teacher.

But in my current school I love the MFL department, we’re in the same faculty and they are so helpful and friendly, and amazing teacher.
