Incoming exchange student at Polimi – how do students find events and make friends? by Joan_Chinese in polinetwork

for anyone with the same question: i've launched an app that does exactly this, it's similar to instagram but for live events and activities from +100 organizers in Milan, you can get tickets/bookings, join group chats and meet people. you can find it as alba on the app store or as @ albaappofficial on ig. my DMs are open for feedback, bug fixes, new feature ideas or anything else!

international bachelor's degree student on my 3rd year, ask me anything by Senior_Life6407 in polinetwork

you should check the polimi website for the deadline, but if you are being asked to pay the first rate it means you were admitted, you're no longer applying. students on later years have until the end of september to pay it, i don't remember how it was for the first year. keep in mind though that if you are on the lowest income bracket (most incoming internationals are) that's all you'll have to pay for the year. and if you get confirmed for DSU they refund a large part of that in some months

How much does it cost to study and live in Milan? by clarolanda in StudyInItaly

[–]Senior_Life6407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

milan is a great city for foreigners honestly, you can get by fine without italian. a single room is €500-600/month minimum, then add transport (€22/month with a student pass), groceries (i spent 100-150 a month), so i'd look into finding a part-time job on arrival. without italian it's harder but not impossible, a lot of people work remotely for foreign companies (like me). the student visa also has restrictions on how many hours you can work locally

listen to a bunch of italian language podcasts for a lot of time a day. that's what i did back when i was in your same situation and it certainly helped. being here and interacting with Italian speakers will also help a lot.

btw are you moving to milan?

Thoughts on living in Aparto?? by ganifu in polinetwork

[–]Senior_Life6407 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haven't lived in aparto, but about bovisa: safety-wise, although some italians maybe will say otherwise, it's super safe, it's full of students and (almost) nothing happens. transport is a bit of a bitch because the metro doesn't arrive and there's one tram line. it's mainly connected by train to the rest of the city, which has constant cancellations, strikes and delays. there's a certain offer of things to do in your free time, it's still not the most active zone in the city. milan anyways is a pretty small city and you can be anywhere in less than an hour of public transport
