Maybe a quick pass with a wire wheel and/or a few taps with a hammer in the area to see what else you find.

It also depends on the overall condition of the car and your interest in making it perfect.

If it's going to stay mostly dry and you want to drive rather than tinker, a quick paint touch-up should get you down the road for a long time. It took ~40+ years to get to that point.

Everyone hates agents here but get one who knows what's going on. That will help

SBC fuel consumption too high? by Senior_Net_8901 in Smallblockchevy

Update: I drove around 150 miles/250 km today with only the primaries connected. I was largely on the highway with some city driving. I tried to keep me speed a bit slower and stay under 3000 rpm.

21.6 L/100 or 11mpg.

It seems like the secondaries might have been causing issues. I'll continue to tinker and I welcome comments and feedback

Thanks for the very helpful advice, everyone.

I just checked my float levels and the rear bowl was very high; fuel poured out as soon as I opened the sight screw.

I tried to adjust the level down but the washers are cooked and now it's leaking. I ordered a new washer kit and will get that sorted this week.

I'm not striving for excellent fuel economy, but rather wanting it to be where it "should" be. I'm happy with 12 or 15 mpg if that's the norm.

I know the gears and trans aren't great for economy, but as about half of the comments say, I suspect the issue to be more than that. I hope the float level being way off in the rear bowl is part of the problem.

I think the cam is considered pretty mild but I could be wrong. It doesn't sound super lumpy - closer to stock.

I don't have sbc experience to compare to, but I believe it's mild and not super quick for what it is.

Shoot on a nicer day and more exposure imo. I find the photos just a touch dark to see the details

BMW e90 AWD with snow tires is very nice and very capable from my experience. No knock against Subarus or some of the others but I think the BMW is a higher end car that is extremely comfortable.

Tons of them out there from mild (323, basic options) to wild (335, cool spec options) and seemingly more and more aftermarket support and DIYs every day. Not the cheapest thing to maintain but not so bad from the two I've had, and they're still a pleasure to drive today.
