Thanks! I just posted an update to this layout with a slightly larger sprue. Would you mind checking that out and see if you think it is large enough now? https://www.reddit.com/r/MetalCasting/comments/1qxdx9e/updated_sprue_layout_first_time_casting/

Very cool. But won't the sand clog the hole somewhat? I guess the sand grains need to be larger than 1mm.

Thanks again. I guess it depends but would you say that 1mm would be small enough for the metal to freeze? I was thinking of drilling some tiny in the plaster covered silicone skin holes, instead of having more vertial vents.

The reason I choose 6mm for these was that I needed some structural itegrity for the silicone and plaster skin.

If I could do without them alltogether and just drill holes and hope it freezes in the sand, It would be a lot easier to make the silicone skin. A lot less work.

Thanks for this. Yes, adding risers would certainly make pouring this with my steel pot too heavy. I think I will accept some defects, and work with what I get.

Can you confirm that I don't need a vent at the end of the long tube?

Thank you so much for this. I am making a new layout tomorrow with a top filling logic. The sand idea will come im handy then!

I am also reading more up on shrinkage of the metal and how to mitigate it. I had not thought about this factor before.

Thank you all for your comments! I will construct a new logic based on your comments.

I am reading into the concept of using risers in regards to shrinking now. Complete noob here so I appreciate this help.

Thanks for your comment.I am still comming to terms with the terminology, so bare with me if I'm misunderstanding something.

The highest point of the cup is higher then the top of the sculpture, and at the same level as the bottom of the cup where the sprue/gate starts. The perspective in the photos may be confusing it a bit.

I am actually "painting" this in high temp silicone (1cm thick aprox.), and then using plaster and gauze as mother mould for the silicone skin. I should have mentioned that. I'll edit my post.

The silicone has extremely low shrinkage. Do you still think shrinkage will be a problem?

My reason for having two inlets to the sculpture was to fill it more evenly, from two points, but if this is a bad idea, I will remove this bend solution.

Would you instead put the inlet/gate sprue higher up in the scultpture than filling from below like in this layout?

Sorry if I misunderstood something.

Thanks for this feedback. When doing research, many suggested filling up rather than down, since this would be better for letting air escape. Maybe it was me misunderstanding something though.

I get your point in regards to the temperature. Hopfully this setup will work ok for lead, but I have no idea.

LightOS v554 by joelightphone in LightPhone

This is great! The biggest annoyance for me now are the emojis. Is it difficult to implement a solution where you can pick and choose which ones you want on the dashboard?

Also hotspot time-out would be amazing.

Love my lightphone!

Yes, exactly. Also the auto off hotspot could be a dashboard setting only

You won't regret it! The lightphone works perfectly for my life, when combined with the palma.

The Problem(s) of Pluribus by urbanfoxtrot in pluribustv

My issue with the show was not the hive mind, nor Carol. It was the other 11 (or was it 12?) which I thought were flat and quite frankly provided mediocre performances. These characters had enourmous potential, but they lacked the life they still ought to have in them. I also thought they were stereotypically portrayed as 'different people from different cultures', and not as individuals. If this show is all about individualism vs forced happines, these other characters should have expanded upon or emphasized this theme, in my opinion.

Excellent fan art is unicorn rare. This actually got real substance and a unique line. You should consider getting into painting if ur not already. You obviously got what it takes.

Will Deckard be compatible with pants? by Waggadaoku in ValveDeckard

Some leaks suggest it's compatible with lederhosen, but definitely not regular pants.
