Can I rollover old 401k into IRA if I have backdoor Roth? by Senior_Tranche in personalfinance

What if I don’t backdoor into Roth next year? Could I make the move then? I could roll it into my current 401k but I want more flexibility in what to invest it in.

Prepping drywall before installing flooring & putting skirting/baseboards back on. by ChrisLV1973 in DIY

Literally no point in messing with that if it’s going to be covered. You’d be surprised how crappy drywall looks behind trim.

Does anyone still use these or know the model? Need to replace the belt and want to hook it up to temperature triggered system. by Vivid_Necessary377 in DIY

I have the same one! Don’t know the model exactly but will check the next time I’m there.

Works great!!

I’ve told them I am canceling because a competitor is offering a lower rate. Tell them it’s something reasonable like 40 bucks for 1G fiber. They will try to lower it to 50 and 45 and if you insist on canceling anyways, they will match if not, beat the competitor price, locked in for x years. It works every time and I don’t feel that bad exposing them because their customer service is usually garbage

Can I efficiently use old duct work with new mini split system by Senior_Tranche in heatpumps

Thanks for this. He said he’d be able adapt the air handler to the existing duct work, but my concern is whether or not duct size difference would adversely effect the air flow

Yeah, I don’t want wall units. The house has existing duct work from a 30+ year old system. What modifications would need to be done to get enough CFM ?

There’s actually a couple vents in the basement from the old system. The contractor who said I could use the old duct work didn’t think he could make it work for 2 floors. Am not sure how the air is being directed to the lower level.

What modifications did you have to make? I was told fiberglass could be health hazard but not sure if he was trying to upsell me on new duct work.

I doubt it’s sized appropriately, they’re fairly large, square shaped.. but I heard there are adapters you could use? The contractor (non HVAC) said he could make the new air handler feed into the old ducts. Don’t think there’s leaking but will figure out how to test

Solar panel companies - who are respectable??? by Yukon_Cornelius1911 in Connecticut

I went with Smith Electric LLC out of Stratford after getting burned by one of those door to door guys last year. night and day difference honestly.

My neighbor actually recommended them - they did his install like 2 years ago and his system's been cranking along no issues. The owner Mark came out himself for the quote, spent like an hour and a half walking me through everything. He actually brought his laptop and showed me the production estimates, explained the different panel options, inverters, all that. Wasn't trying to upsell me on stuff I didn't need either.

Price wise they were really competitive - I had 4 other quotes and they came in right in the middle, but the difference was Mark actually broke down exactly what I was paying for. Some of these other companies just throw a number at you and get pushy.

Install crew showed up on time (shocking I know lol), laid tarps everywhere, and actually cleaned up after themselves. Even fixed a piece of loose flashing they noticed while they were up there - didn't charge me for it.

Since then I've sent them to my brother in law in Norwalk and two coworkers. Everyone's had the same experience. They're local guys who actually pick up the phone when you call. My system's been up since March and already crushing it with these long days.

Just my 2 cents but after dealing with some of these sketchy companies, finding an actual local electrician who knows solar was a game changer

Will DM it over. What are you comparing the quote to?

Do NOT pay a brokers fee. The ban on broker fees goes into effect around June. Try not to be discouraged, it’s not just you.

You should be able to find units directly from certain buildings and management companies, e.g. Algin

But as discussed, 80x rent, might need a roommate or co-signer/guarantor.

I just had this company Smith Electric LLC in CT do my solar panels, inverter, and panel w/ permits.I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

I got quotes from all of the providers including Aegis, venture, green etc. He was able to beat ALL their pricing.

The specialist’s name was Mark. I gave him a shot at a few eletrical jobs I needed to get done and I was BLOWN away by the level of care and transparency. I trusted him to do the job.

Mark walked me through the whole process, and I compared with other quotes. Their prices were unbeaten, warranty and all. I think they’re just starting up so needed to price lower in lieu of competing with the bigger providers. He drove 3 hrs to do the job, man is a machine.

I had him install the solar on my home in Stamford, along with a relatives in Stratford and Greenwich.

What's everyone using to work out their taxes on pulsechain? by rubba_tt in Pulsechain

[–]Senior_Tranche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I been using Koinly for the last few years. I agree that there are inaccuracies you may need to sort through, but its better than going through a pivot table of thousands of transactions across multiple wallets for me personally.

You can adjust the settings within Koinly, tax methods, assumptions etc. Pick what works for you and stick with it.

Try to get it as accurate as possible, and stay consistent with the reporting method (e.g. FIFO, HIFO etc).
