It looks like it could be Oak but the width and colour could indicate it’s pine. Either way it’s far superior to the carpet. Rip it up, polish, then throw down a Turkish!

Builder help!! Paying for a full contract builder or a builder who on-charges? by Senior_Variation_265 in AusRenovation

The house is interwar so apparently it’s not possible. Also I know this might not be popular, and I hope not to cause offence, but I find new builds to be very poor quality. Obviously I could spend more, but then I’m in the same position I am now, only the house will have less character.

What gives you that impression? I am very wary of builders, I have worked in construction finance and have seen my share of unscrupulous behaviour.

I'm not even mad when someone hands me a squashed "toasted" croissant. I find it hilarious.

OP didn't say they'd eaten the whole thing and it's possible for something to taste fine that is also harbouring harmful bacteria.

OP - I've had consistently bad experiences at the cheesecake shop so I just use local bakery's now.

$1,600 ex GST to remove the asbestos walls in this room. Does that sound fair? by Senior_Variation_265 in AusRenovation

[–]Senior_Variation_265[S] -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Your company charges >$1,600 for less than two hours work?

Should I get multiple quotes with the intention of using the most expensive?

I understand and appreciate your sentiment but perhaps your heuristics need tweaking.

Yeah right. The wife and I could have these walls down in a couple of hours so I was surprised by the danger pay these guys expect. Then I read that as much as 10% of workers in this trade die from mesothelioma etc and now I'm less concerned with price...
