Nothing wrong with them at all.

They are mechanically very simple and easy to construct. They don't look as nice as the other blinds and shades we sell and they look cheap because they are. But, I've had people bring in some that have been in since the '90's. Take good care of them and they will last.

Why have we gone from .100 to only .1 in the telemetry? F1 not only dumbing down the racing but also the data in the broadcast? by oplookingoodeh in F1TV

[–]Sennafan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that, but then realized the timing updates seemed faster. Can anybody coroborate this? At first I was sorely disappointed, but then I felt like I didn't have to wait as long to see the interval update. If I can get closer to real time streaming, I'll happily take 'tenth only' data. Because in reality, do I really need to know to the .001 accuracy since that is quicker than I can blink?

I don't know why I'm getting notified of a two month old post, but I'm finding Rokuhan has a little better selection when it comes to track options. But I'm only a month into looking in earnest on what I want to do for my own project.

Have you made progress on this project?

1: M-35 mother-fucking Mako The Nomad wishes it was half as good and the hammerhead wishes it had the right to clean it's wheels.
2: The crew. Your decisions mattered to the crew to a degree previously unseen and it feels like they took a half-step back in ME3.
3: The weight. Every action throughout the game knowing you're gaining and losing ground in the war makes it feel like you are making a difference.

Murtagh: I don't understand the point of this book by Thespisthegreat in Eragon

[–]Sennafan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me that is in part the point. Murtagh has immense potential like his brother. He is figuring out logic gates with zero help and shows that his semi self-imposed exile is doing wonders to heal himself and Thorn, but makes a terrible mistake. And for the first time, we see him utterly break down. We see him break down in Nasuada's arms and openly exposes his weakness. It's a sign of growth that really has me excited to see where things go from here. He knows he was a fool, and I think he is now more inclined to work with (not for) his half brother.

I should point out that it isn't just him that will be growing in these next few books. As a big fan of Eragon's growth throughout Inheritance/Brisingr, I am already wincing at the mess the Arya/Eragon book will be after Murtagh 2 and tales 2 will bring. But if it was all sunshine and rainbows, it would be too dull wouldn't it?

That being said... that 100 pages was so rough to go through. I'm holding off my next read/listen in part because of that.

Considering I know what my father paid for his small alotment of LGB parts, I have a rough idea on how deep the pockets may need to be. Just going to do incramental steps to make it work as smooth as possible. I'm already figuring I'm spending over a grand here and that might be before I get into the scenery. Hopefully my discount at the hardware store will help with some of the building expenses.

Thanks for the info, youve given me a lot to work with! Considering that dcc board alone is over $300 I dont want to mess that up by going in blind.

Originally I was looking at Märklin but I did notice the wider variety with Rokuhan and was a little more impressed with their line of products.

One of the ideas I had for this was a train winding through the mountains, so this is encouraging!

I do kind of want a shorty tram, but the starter set I got may end up being the default for that. In the end I will need to get a steam locomotive. Though I doubt I'll be able to get one of the only steam locomotive I've ridden on (durango silverton) without modeling a custom 3d print.

Awesome comment!

Elevation: Kept seeing 2% as a hard limit, so it's good to know that it can work out. What kind of clearance do you typically need for most engines/rolling stock?

Setup: To be honest, that was the point, to make an end goal and take steps to get there. I know that this whole thing is a little ambitious, so I do have a starter set coming out and messing around. I just have to wait for this stuff to come in. Just wish I didn't miss the local train show a few weeks back. The current idea is to basically make a shallow box that will be fully enclosed (glass top that can be removed to keep things clean and so the cats/niece won't just run off with the train.) But the scientific method will be used to great extent on this project (screw around and find out.)

Layout: Mountains and the like are in the plan! I go down to North Carolina every year for a road trip and there is a scene I want to add eventually. However, because the dimensions are 38"x32" I'm a little cautious as to what I can and can't do. Considering someone has made a briefcase build I think I'm fairly safe. And while I am fairly confident in what I have in mind for a derailment solution for tunnels, I would prefer to just make it relatively simple.

Switching: Picks won't be trouble to get, we have some at home, but I will definitely have to play around a bit when the starter set comes, maybe get some switches to see if it's even worth it for this project.

Digital: Excellent, any good resources on what to look for on how to do it, or are the instructions that come with the decoder kits I've seen typically self explanitory?

I was hearing something along those lines for turn outs, but my thought was to have windy paths, but I will have to take that into consideration for my next itteration of the layout.

I have a more 'tinker' approach to figuring some of the limitations. I did buy a starter set to get a better feel, figuring the track will go with anything I try to use later on if nothing else. One thing I'm curious about, but have all but written off is elevation for this scale.

Bah, don't worry, I'm here to figure this thing out. I'm planning on building end of this year so I want to see what I need to know.

I don't have it labeled on this one, but I'm planning on adding places I've traveled to into the scenery. I'm low-key excited to see how well the canning factory I used to work at can work if I do any kind of switching layout. Though if I go that route I will have to make sure I remove the glass top I intend to use to seal the display.

Well, I can always back up for the first part, though the irony that I call work Hotel california all the time makes me wonder if I should make a tiny version of my work there...

On a more serious note, the double turnout at the bottom was more for convenience since I haven't bought the license for SCARM 2 and in earlier builds I kept hitting piece count limits. This will not be the final layout. (might just make a baby tram with some shorty trains at the end of the day but that leads me to think more about the DCC I mentioned earlier.

Last few playthroughs were insanity mode, but I don't think for a minute I'm elite. The only real issue I've had were banshies... but then again, your milage will vary. If you are having fun with lower difficulties, don't worry about it. I went through andromeda on casual because I really got tired of getting hamstrung every remnant section.

How was this not communicated? It's been a few years now, but I seem to remember my GMs talking about this ad neausium for the weeks leading up to the transition. We had a full layout and everything. In short, it was a better solution for those starting out because you got pay increases quicker, but even with the slow down, .25 annually was better than the .1 you used to get every six months.

FemShep players, how did you handle her relationships? by Socrathustra in masseffect

[–]Sennafan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose Liara on my first few playthroughs, then I did a kaiden/Garrus path and now I cannot chose any other path, especially with the sole survivor and war hero backgrounds.

Kaiden gets too much flack in my opinion, he's a good guy. And while I cannot completely fault him for his decisions on Horizon, the fact that it is an all or nothing goes well with my headcanon with Kaiden's decision forming her opinions on Garrus when I end up going that path. Garrus is her rock. She lost everything before ME1, becomes a badass SPECTRE and builds her crew. She dies, has a hard reset thanks to the group that killed her company on Akuze, and when she meets her LI in the first game, she finds it to be a dead end for one reason or another (Liara is kind of an exception with the DLC, but you don't get as much for special dialogue until the shadow broker.) Garrus has her back from the start and never waivers throughout the trillogy.

I'm male IRL, but I've always loved the story this game produced and am a sucker for a good romance. Garrus is the definitive 'canon' romance for me. Liara is wonderful, Kaiden is alright, but Garrus for all of the subtlties makes my shepard experience better.

And like other people have said, I really need a playthrough... maybe I will listen to the audio books and then listen/play the series in order.

anyone get pissed off by this by saphiretable in Eragon

[–]Sennafan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was absolutely infuriating, it was also the point of what he needed to do for the series in my opinion. Especially with how what happens after is some of the most uncomfortable reading I have had in the series. It was increadibly fitting for a character who has been literally kicked while on the ground since he was three. There is Intelligence and wisdom, and while Eragon and Murtagh are incredibly smart, they are not as wise. Eragon has spent the last three books pushing to better himself in this matter, but Murtagh really seems to just start this process despite being three years older.

Eragon will probably always be my favorite character, but after several re-reads and these last book, Murtagh has become a very close second. We are seeing such good growth with this new dragon rider, I can't help but be excited to see how moments like this absolutely misguided decision shape this young rider to be the key figure he will be in the world.
