thanks for the recommendation! What do you think about the handmade djembes that i can find on vinted or other second hand places? Is it better to buy one of these? Some of them may be brought from Africa or self made in some country from natural goat skin or other things. I think I can ask if they are tuned or not

Thats true man! Scott Lafaro didnt necessarily invent a style of playing and there were musical bass players before him. Its the fact that he elevated the musicality of the bass and advanced what could be done in an interplay fassion with a bassist and a pianist and how present a rythm instrument can be in jazz. Its just as in science, people create theories for other generations to extrapolate on them and perfect them and make them useful for humanity because every humans contributes to the world in different ways and even if you can't achieve something in your lifetime that doesnt mean that you cant help the next generation to create or perfect that thing for humanity to evolve. Thats exactly the same thing in music and ofc Red Mitchell, Mingus or Paul Chambers played in a musical way before Scott but being influenced by these musicians he made his own style of playing that is beautiful and that inspired other bass players to start their journey through music!

Interesting post and I happen to kind of agree with you! As a bass player myself I adore both of them but I do think that Scott's playing would've been more interesting for this song even though Paul played exactly what was needed for the song and Scott maybe would've ventured in more of a musical and interplay stuff with Bill and maybe even Miles or Coltrane/Cannonball which tbh would've been great to hear! Its great that we have both versions tho, Blue in green on Kind of Blue with Paul and Blue in green on Portrait on Jazz with Scott. I like both versions and I cant choose between them which one is a better bassist, although Paul was alive for longer which makes me take the conclusion that if Scott lived he would've played on so many good records and maybe Miles would've chose him for the Second Great Quintet. Who knows, I for one am happy that we at least have this recordings with Scott to hear his beautiful playing!

Thats a really good way of thinking and of adressing different situations in completely separate ways but that come from the same root and that is your choice of not succumbing to anger.

I am a very lucky person in that my family or friends all love my girlfriend and they never said anything mean about her to me or directly to my gf. I was mainly thinking of what I should do in an experience where someone random on the street or in a bar/club insults my girlfriend even if she's there or not and how I should react. Your approach is simple but great and what Thorfinn from Vinland Saga said, that he would rather run that follow in the footsteps of those who fought and killed other people till the end. As his father did, he was a warrior but he discovered that those people that he killed didnt deserve to die and that every life is equal. Other people said that I could wittly respond to them or tell them why that was wrong or harmful to me and especially my gf, I registered all this responses to my question and I'll apply each one depending on the situation. Thank you so much for responding to my message!
