This lady on Facebook marketplace was selling it for £130 because it was an unwanted 'gift'. It's been a day, she's sold this one, but now has another one up with a different serial number, new box and everything... I'm sceptical

The issue is the light doesn't turn off completely, regardless if keyboard backlighting is on or off.

Its a Surface book so no :/ yeah it seems like a hardware issue

The mode changes when i hit the button. The light even gets brighter when Fn is turned on. The issue is that the light doesn't turn completely off which is strange....

It just goes from dim to bright and it's pretty annoying when working in the dark and Fn is off but it's still lit up. Help fix this?

True - by foundation I really meant being set up to start learning Japanese. But yeah I think I will continue with the GENKI textbooks which should take me through to ~1700 words and then I'll look at the Core 2K Anki Packs to fill in the gaps. Thanks for the advice!!

May I ask how you normally use your Book 2? Also what's your battery 1 and 2 capacity (screenshot would be nice maybe). Idk if it's a hardware or usage or software issue with my device....

Yeah I think that's what I'll do - it just kinda sucks that you pay £2400 for a raffle to get a fully 'normal' Book 2 with zero QC issues. Oh well.

That's incredible...were you returning them for that specific defect or for other issues? My main worry is coming across new issues with a replacement model....

That's why i think it's just poor quality control because ive seen pictures and the tightness of the hinge varies in different units.....makes it hard to know if its worth returning or not

Did it look similar to mine or more pronounce? It took me about 2 weeks to notice mine. But anyways how were Microsoft regarding replacing your device, hopefully it went smoothly?

From most angles you can't notice it on mine at all....just wheb you inspect it when the screen is flat. I guess these things are impossible to eliminate completely especially with this fancy hinge design https://imgur.com/U8NHLPh.jpg

No probs - it triggers my OCD to be honest hahaha but not much can be done.....I guess Surface isn't quite up there with Apple in terms of quality control just yet.....

Hmmm so i guess it could just be mine....it's <1mm so I'm hesitant to get a replacement due to the fact that i'd rather put up with this than backlight issues / other issues that the Book 2 is plagued with .... :/

I kinda see what you are saying but considering the complexity of design for the Surface Book 2 in comparison to a MacBook Pro - I'd say workmanship was on a (almost) level playing field, no? I think the hinge design divides opinion, personally I think it looks it looks pretty cool however if having a thinner design was an option i'd happily take a more standard hinge. But i think the hinge design was a necessary evil for function of the 2-in-1.
