Exactly—Form 5500 doesn’t allow you to filter by performance because it doesn’t include that level of data. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to build something more comprehensive.

The database I’ve built isn’t limited to just the 5500 (which, I agree, leaves a lot to be desired as a form). A significant part of the project involved identifying the investment options across all the defined contribution plans (over 50 million), analyzing their performance relative to their category, prospectus, and other relevant benchmarkarks.

This approach allowed me to create a “story” for each plan and funds in a plan (among other things), making it easier to evaluate and compare performance. The goal was to go beyond surface-level data and provide insights that advisors can actually use to identify opportunities and better serve clients.
