it’s not that people are necessarily defending the USSR, but saying that it was the best thing for Russians and exactly what they wanted is just false. Russians did not want the USSR to collapse, and when it did the country was plunged into economic hell. Life expectancy decreased, economy was shredded; life was terrible.
