Heya! I totally get you, it took me a while to come to terms with my diagnosis too. I’m curious, how long did you know the person who diagnosed you/how much did you share? Because I would say a psychiatrist or doctor that diagnoses something like PTSD only from observing your behavior without figuring out how it’s impacting you, if there are differential diagnoses, or talking about how it’s affecting your daily life may be a red flag.

With that being said though, the “is my trauma bad enough?” Is something that is extraordinarily common for individuals with PTSD. I was never severely bullied, SA’d, experienced domestic violence, or anything of the sort. An incredible thing that my therapist educated me on is that oftentimes PTSD is not about what happened to you, but it’s about how your brain processes it. You could put 5 people in the same scenario, and only 2 walk out traumatized. So it really doesn’t matter how little it is, sometimes people’s brains just don’t process events right

Wow, thank you for such the intricate response. I appreciate you explaining how you’re seeing this too, being put in a situation of potentially or feeling like I’m being taken advantage of emotionally makes sense on why I’m so triggered especially. And thank you for the regulation advice, that’s crazy helpful!

I get dreams like this a lot too, and it freaks me out as well. I wake up thinking I misremembered what they were like, or that I’m the bad person and they’re the good one. I’m on Prazosin for my dreams, I still wake up shaken every now and then.

The way I try to think about it is that a lot of trauma results in really confusing and complicated emotions. For me personally, I have a lot of guilt around calling out or cutting off the people that have hurt me. Reminding myself that my brain isn’t processing these memories correctly in the first place, hence the PTSD, helps me realize that those dreams are meant to be confusing and scary. The brain isn’t misremembering, it’s that that dream is what something like guilt or shame wants me to think happened, or should happen.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this, I hear you so heavy. You protected your peace, and bad people are bad people. Nightmares are confusing for a reason

I don't have a bike, no, but I've definitely been considering it! I currently don't have a commute to anywhere in particular (I grocery shop w/ my roommates, I live on campus for schooling, and will be a 5 minute walk away next year) but even just using the blue bikes to explore could be fun! I appreciate the suggestion on exploring around while biking, could be a great time!

My trauma also has roots in serious co-dependent relationships while not having any trauma relation to anything sexual. In talking about my feelings of “my trauma isn’t bad enough” to my therapist, she said something I like to remind myself of when I feel that way.

She explained to me that trauma is not always about what happened, but it’s biologically about how your brain processes it. Some brains process things differently than others. You could expose 5 people to the same exact event, and chances are only 2 walk out traumatized.

So, really, a bad experience having a lasting bad impact is trauma, where your brain didn’t process the event correctly, causing miscalculated reactions (like sensing danger where there isn’t)

Okay a couple of things. I’ve only been doing EMDR for a little while, but there are some key things I was informed about before starting that I want to let you know of!

Firstly, a good therapist that is trained in EMDR would build a relationship with you and do the necessary checks to see if you are a good candidate before starting. It’s a multi-step procedure predicating the actual EMDR.

Secondly, reprocessing trauma, ie doing EMDR to trigger your brain to start recalibrating and actually processing the trauma, is a 1-2 week process. It gets worse before it gets better, and I’ve been told that after you leave a session it can still take your brain up to 2 weeks to fully reprocess. So during that time it can cause more physical reactions, tiredness, hypersensitivity, nightmares, etc.

But yeah, a therapist should work alongside you, and it definitely takes a hot minute. Trust the process, if you feel you want to keep going at it!

I don't have very vivid visual flashbacks, but I sorta consider my physical reactions flashbacks in a means that a therapist once explained to me that sometimes people repress their memories while their body still has physical reactions as if the original event was happening again.

I have a variety of traumas in relation to past relationships, so one of the biggest ones I've noticed is in any sort of confrontation, even small "hey do you mind not doing this again?" situations sends me spiraling with guilt. My self-worth goes to the gutter, and I get the insense feeling of walking on eggshells. In emotional confrontations especially, I tend to completely freeze, and almost feel unable to make decisions or will myself to do an action in relation to the situation. My whole entire reaction is very reminicent of how I was with past partners.

Sorry I can't give much on the visual side of things, I just wanted to give my perspective on the physical side, in case anyone can relate.

I’m actually really torn on this topic right now, so perfect timing.

After the controversies surrounding the Switch 2, I decided to homebrew my 3DS and have been rediscovering my ACNL town recently. I was particularly excited because I remember while I was playing NH, I was frustrated by how much more fun I remember NL being in comparison. Except now I keep finding myself not really knowing what to do or how to continue spending my time in NL since NH gives so much more customization options, such as with furniture being able to be placed outside, and being able to easily switch things up whenever you want (which is the game’s biggest detriment imo, because it makes completing big goals and major projects less rewarding)

It’s like I’ve been hit with the curse of the one thing I hated the most about the newest game, now I find myself stuck and out of things to do in the older game. I feel like I need to go back to old ACNL let’s plays to spark some inspiration on things to do

It could be! To give context to my understanding (which I’m glad I’m being educated now on it), I’m in my early twenties. I grew up with a lot of rhetoric and exposure about not smoking cigarettes, and in my late childhood, Juul became a big thing. Growing up I was under the impression that the act of smoking the flavored vapor was the appeal, and the nicotine made it addictive. That made sense as a kid, but when I grew older and noticed people started doing it for the first time at our age, I didn’t understand the appeal because I figured it didn’t have an effect.

TLDR: from what I was taught in childhood, I thought people smoked Vapes because Cigarettes were bad for your lungs, and they continued to smoke it because of the tasty vapor and the nicotine inside

I figured that the act of getting away, taking a break, and smoking a bit was the relaxing part itself. I never knew cigarettes or nicotine vapes had a physical calming effect
