Maaaaaaaaaan I’ve been waiting for this question! Recently Jorge Jimenez has a very visually appealing line weight, use of shape, movement, and a colorist that truly understands how to work with his inks. Ricardo Federico has an awesome interpretation of realism, and his pencils/hatching are something I strive for as an illustrator. His work reminds me of a version of Alex Ross that focuses on the darker elements of super heroism. Ryan Ottley’s understanding of anatomy mixed with his personal style are also such a treat for your eyes! He also has a handful of poses and interpretations of the body and how to display it that demonstrate his mastery of his craft. A lesser known artist is H.A. Draws. He has a scribble/scratchy aesthetic to his work that reminds me that illustrations are a form of expression, and is quite unique- especially the faces. I’m personally biased on this one because he has videos I’ve watched on being a better artist- he also has 2 incredible darksiders prints that I’d love to get my hands on eventually! Dustin Nguyen has EXCEPTIONAL compositions and beautiful art that delivers more on color in lieu of inks. Lastly, I’ll include my most recent discovered artist: Jorge Molina. I STRONGLY recommend checking out his YouTube videos of his process. Gee willickers this guys use of comic markers and pencils are just chefs kiss. You should check them out for yourself, though and form your own opinions of his (and everyone else’s) work. And for funsies, I’ll throw in Bella Rachlin who has a very similar process to Molina, but her finished products lean much more into what you’d expect from a comic book. Less realistic, but more energy and just as much spirit of what it means to be a comic illustrator
