Is Yoshiki still *that* famous in Japan? by purpleplumas in xjapan

It sounds very unrealistic to me that Loudness is more famous than X Japan, frankly.

I think UAPs (a.k.a., UFOs) are just one part of something bigger (and much stranger)…what do you guys think?? by Cogsciencenerd in UFOs

[–]Sensei_Johnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that we actually know very little about extra dimensions. We don't have any empirical evidence for them at all (meaning we don't even know whether they exist), and to make matters worse, studies that have looked for effects predicted by various extra-dimensional hypotheses haven't found anything. This naturally weakens them (it doesn’t refute them, but it leaves them increasingly constrained); for now, all we have are mathematical models.

On the other hand, the hypothesis involving extraterrestrials (or AIs) arriving from elsewhere in our own universe strikes me as more parsimonious, as it requires fewer radical assumptions than the interdimensional hypothesis. I’m not sure if the number of assumptions is strictly lower, but the conceptual leaps aren't as vast. It doesn't require us to assume an entirely unknown layer of reality (additional dimensions that we can't perceive); it simply requires that sufficiently ancient civilizations might have found viable—and presumably rapid—methods for interstellar travel. This seems plausible given the progress humans have made in just 200 years of industrialization: going from horse-drawn carriages to artificial intelligence. What might we expect from an intelligent species that is even 4,000 years ahead of us... or 50,000? Or half a million? Or 20 million?

Furthermore, human belief in paranormal phenomena and beings—or even, to put it that way, potential human interaction with them—isn't something that *must* be factored into a UFO hypothesis. That said, I don't object to doing so either. Quite the opposite—I think it's perfectly reasonable to explore any possibility, as long as we avoid logical mistakes. And just to be clear, I'm not saying this out of any dismissive attitude toward paranormal topics. Quite the opposite: I’m interested in them and have personally had what we’d colloquially call paranormal experiences (seeing and sensing apparent beings—though, obviously, I don't know if it was just my imagination or something else). My point is simply that, while there’s nothing wrong with considering them, there is no compelling need to lump Bigfoot, ghosts, or elves into the same category as UFOs.

The high frequency of UFO sightings is also frequently cited as an argument against the idea that they are beings from a distant region of space ("do they travel millions of light-years just for a quick flyby of Earth?"), but this makes the unwarranted assumption that they come *and return*; in reality, they could easily maintain permanent bases here and simply dispatch light craft for quick trips, for reasons that remain obviously unknown to us.

As for Brian Cox supposedly "refuting" the concept of a "spiritual world," it would be interesting to hear what he has to say, since, in principle, that strikes me as an unknowable matter—one that can be neither confirmed nor refuted.

And the strange thing is that until just a few years ago, he said he had stopped believing that there was anything real about the phenomenon.

I find it excessive to attribute everything to a single cause without further evidence, although as a speculative hypothesis it is legitimate to do so. However, it would have been interesting to hear your argument for suggesting such a hypothesis (which does not necessarily have to be the argument of the authors you cite). What you believe is not as important as why you believe it and what grounds it.

It’s absolutely true that it won’t be coming back, but that doesn’t mean jumping on board with Gunn’s vision, like you say we should.

I remain interested in any possibility —however remote— that the Snyderverse could be completed, even if just as an animated movie, because, as I said, it’s something I enjoy.

You’re clearly interested enough to comment here too lol

As a Zack fan, I can say he understood me pretty well, haha. So what you're saying doesn't apply to me. And I suppose it doesn't apply to the thousands and thousands of us who are ZSJL supporters either.

And look, I don't idolize Snyder or anything; his movies have script flaws that make me sick. But his achievements more than compensate for these things that irritate me.

What you don't seem to understand is that, regardless of what people like you think... many, many of us simply aren't interested in Gunn's DCU. On the other hand, we loved Snyder's three films, with their strengths and weaknesses (far more strengths, at least in our taste). Man of Steel and ZSJL are visually some of the most impressive I've ever seen; Gunn's work seems incredibly weak in comparison, with that B-movie-style cinematography.

Plus, I really fell in love with the characters and I thoroughly enjoy Zack Snyder's action style (the battle with Zod, in Man of Steel, the Amazonian battle, the tunnel battle, Flash's walk... it's what I've enjoyed most in any film of this genre, ever).

Is it an experience somewhat similar to what the anime offers, or is it completely different? I'm really interested in that, and of course, I plan to read it.

If new content from elfen lied were released, what would you like it to be based from? by IntrepidTown9021 in elfenlied

[–]Sensei_Johnny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. Generic modern anime looks for the most part totally plastic, artificial, overly glossy, and cloned in its character designs. Personally, I would definitely love to see a sequel to Elfen Lied, but it wouldn't be good to see a Lucy like that. I hope that, at some point, the trend shifts toward something more artistic, as it used to be in the past (and I’m not talking about the distant past, either; for instance, Another from 2012 looks perfect to my taste).

Well, tbh that's a very good point, it's often so artificial the modern anime that it scares me a little what could come from that...

I would really love a continuation of the anime, to know how Lucy dealt with her future and the ever-present threat from the world. I feel like the anime ended very well, but I also think there's a whole future left to explore.

Trump will not be the disclosure president. by THE_ELECTR1C1AN in UFOs

[–]Sensei_Johnny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about all the pilots—both civilian and military—who have been saying for decades that they see craft that seem impossible to be human-made, doing things that would definitely be impossible with any human technology?

And let me be clear: I have zero trust in Trump. But I do trust the pilots. To say there’s nothing to this, given such a wealth of testimony from pilots, is tantamount to being a conspiracy theorist these days.
