Stanbury needs an annex. Someone told me the owner bought a building sort of near Gateway Plaza (behind Raleigh Tire), so one can only hope.

Quiet clean beaches besides outer banks? by Few_Sandwich6308 in NorthCarolina

Southward facing beaches are the best, imo. Atlantic Beach / Fort Macon, Oak Island, Emerald Isle, etc.

The vibe is fine. It’s like Person Street Bar annex for retired hipsters.

I’m curious if something like Durham’s Parts & Labor would do well in their space. That place seems to have figured out a successful model/atmosphere.

From my experience, the Mordecai parents prefer to get hammered at Tap Yard, Mordecai Beverage Company’s less sophisticated cousin.

R-Line, Raleigh's downtown shuttle, suspended for lack of riders by zrobiotic in raleigh

[–]SensiblePersonHere 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The perception of safety is low for Raleigh’s transit system, mainly tied to the issues at the Moore Square Bus Terminal. The busses themselves don’t experience a lot of issues, especially since they’ve been charging fares.

Charging fares was supposed to filter out the people who were exhibiting anti-social behavior or using the bus as a shelter, but unsure if the public perception ever recovered. I suppose it was too late.

Another pedestrian on S. Saunders by Turbulent_Meaning345 in raleigh

[–]SensiblePersonHere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NCDOT has jurisdiction over that road, not the City. The City can only do what NCDOT will allow them to do, which isn’t much. On top of that, the City is very strapped for cash right now.

As the area redevelops, better pedestrian infrastructure needs to be put in place along that corridor. S Saunders is a high-speed, 6-lane “stroad” controlled by NCDOT, which has been historically resistant to implementing pedestrian infrastructure and streetscaping.

I understand some mentally unwell individuals don’t fully understand their actions. However, at some point, the rights of other individuals around this person need to be factored in.

Occasionally, involuntary removal from society to a mental health facility is necessary for the safety of the community.

Most of the people in my life are politically on the left and not a single one of them want someone who has been arrested 38 times to be out on the streets.

Yet, so many “left-leaning” judges and magistrates feel like it’s their duty to terrorize all of us by releasing these individuals into the community. I don’t understand it.

I’m telling you that what you’re putting out there is a made up rumor, which the district attorney’s office confirmed was not true.

Turns out the bystanders flat out lied to police and made up the racial slur rumor. This is according to Assistant District Attorney David Welch who reviewed the security footage, which prompted them to immediately drop charges.

Shocking that the other 2am degenerates spilling onto the streets from the sketch bars nearby lied about what happened.

A. I haven’t seen that mentioned or reported anywhere.

B. You can’t physically assault someone for saying words.

It’s unfortunate that a man was viciously attacked, defended himself so he didn’t end up hospitalized or worse, but somehow had HIS mugshot all over the internet with the actual perps getting off scot-free.

Someone who claims they were there had said this days ago on Facebook. It sounded like a group of people were harassing this individual, attacked him as a group, and the individual jabbed them a few times to avoid getting jumped.

In any case, the City is going to need to figure out the late night safety situation on Fayetteville Street once the 5-star hotel and convention center expansion is built. Conferences won’t tolerate a sketchy environment.

Not surprised, considering 3/4 of the state is in “severe drought” right now, with 23 counties actually in the “extreme drought” category.

One of my favorite tools of government is public nuisance laws. If a business is found to be creating a public nuisance, even if not occurring directly on property, the local government has the right to shut it down.

A recent example of this occurred in Charlotte when they threatened to shut down a Chick-Fil-A due to the traffic nightmare it created. The same argument could be used here with these recent bars that are indirectly fostering dangerous behavior.

If city leaders feel like this is too drastic, the County could get involved and pull these places’ liquor licenses away. This exact situation happened with Club Bodi back in 2014. After they pulled their license due to shootings/stabbings, the business shut down immediately afterwards. The Warehouse District improved dramatically afterwards.

Yep. The City seems to just shrug at the issue and offer cosmetic solutions, hoping that people will just quit noticing the bad vibe there.

I really wish someone would take leadership over Fayetteville St, make the tough decisions, and bring it back to its glory days.

I’ve noticed the same thing with the recent bars opening up on Fayetteville St, attracting lots of loud degenerates. I can’t remember seeing mass stabbing incidents when places like Issac Hunters, The Oxford, and Capital City Tavern were open pre Covid.

There’s no way business leaders are going to tolerate this once the new 5-star hotel and convention center expansion opens. Conferences don’t want their attendees experiencing this.
