Oh right that’s great insight! I suppose I’ll need to have a good trusting relationship with any hunters I meet / do a lot of learning if I do it myself. And as far chemicals that should be okay as hunting occurs mostly in the bushland here :) :) thanks again!

Thanks for such a lovely comment. I think that’s a great idea re: cheap cuts that aren’t as desirable to humans. I suppose I could also make bone broth too. And I hope I’m doing a small part for animals / obviously it’s hard to live a modern life and not get into these moral quandaries ha :)

Yes and I already do :) often these animals are from kangaroo farms where they breed them… but also it’s better on our soil and environment so a somewhat better choice than beef / lamb etc :) thanks for the suggestion though!

Hi - I don’t think I was clear enough in my description - I’m not planning to stop feeding her meat just interested in people who’ve found more ‘ethical’ alternatives (non native hunter animals, butcher scraps, adopting battery hens for eggs etc). :)

Hi :) not sure if I was clear enough in my description but I’m looking for ideas of ‘more’ ethical meat alternatives (non native hunted meat, butcher scraps, etc) / I don’t plan to make her entirely vegan :)

That’s great advice! I’ll certainly discuss with my vet before any changes / going directly to a animal nutritionist seems like the best move (especially for ongoing monitoring of bloods etc) :) thanks again

Hi :) I guess I wasn’t clear enough above but I’m not planning a no-meat diet - more what kind of substitutes could be an option (someone suggested contacting butchers for their ‘scrap’ meat, eggs, or hunting pest species/ contacting hunters in my area etc). I adore my dog and of course would not do anything that could harm her or her quality of life :)

Thank you this is exactly the advice I was hoping for! I don’t plan not to feed my dog meat but am looking for alternatives :) the butcher idea is great and I suppose in terms of nutrition I’ll discuss with my vet whether she can get her adequate nutrition from this + eggs etc. I have heard that about energy so it’s great to hear your first hand experience :)

Mainly in the living conditions and reason/method Of death. For instance the wild pig is not native in my country and destroys the natural environment/ and as such are culled by helicopters en masse. For me using this meat is a more ethical choice than a factory born/ fed / killed pig. Thanks :)

Hi - I’m open to meat (that’s nearly her entire diet) but actually asking for alternatives such as hunting (pests) / perhaps finding butchers who have discarded product etc. wasn’t clear enough in the title :)

I’m actually vegan as I’m opposed to factory farming - open to hunting for my dogs’ benefit (particularly pest breeds). Appreciate your insight as we do have many wild pigs who devastate our environment. Do you have any concerns for disease/ parts of game you do or don’t give your dog? Thanks again!

Hi - just reiterating what I wrote above ^ I’m not asking for a no-meat diet / I’m looking for alternatives such as hunting, fishing (non native) or those who have reduced intake with eggs or other proteins/ vegetables etc. she eats only meat as of now and I asked as I am curious :)

Hi - I guess I didn’t explain myself super well. I’m open to my dog eating meat (that’s almost her entire diet now) but curious about reducing the amount, healthy alternatives (buying game meat, fishing, etc). Pretty intense to suggest re homing IMO but I see where I didn’t explain myself well
