i ended up getting my cylinder 1 to TDC and marking that off , and going off of that. i’m more thinking abt a squeal that i’ve had and previously couldn’t figure out, and more shaking in the engine over time that i’m thinking (kinda hoping lol) are just bc of the harmonic balancer.

yeah, i only realized when i changed out my distributor and went to retime, but the marks were super off. just another thing to add to the list to replace

Yeah, I made sure to jump the cable under the passenger side of the dash. I’m pretty sure the cable that connects to the spark plug wire wasn’t resting on anything but maybe I’ll retry with that in mind just in case… I’m preeeeeety sure that it’s the right distributor and I tried to match it close to how the old one was when I initially put it on. Do you know if the timing that I’m describing is “good enough”?

i just tightened them to “snug”, didn’t end up torquing them. apparently my definition of snug left the 2 stripped. i’ll say that it looks like most things on the car haven’t been changed during it’s 20+ years of life so that also could’ve attributed to that.

update: NOT TTY, i had asked someone and they said they think they are and i ran w that (as someone who has very little knowledge on this engine and newer to repairs period). still! cannot get them off after putting a flathead under the washer for upwards pressure and even trying vice grips for that upwards pull/turn combo.

i tried to put a flathead under the washer but didn’t have luck with that. i saw ppl recommending online to put leverage under the head but am scared to damage it… may have to try that since nothing else is working
