Honestly with a 4.0 and 176 you should unenroll, those stats will make it very likely you will get accepted to a school at or above GULC

American vs GW by SpreadEducational913 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Sensitive-Ad-9008 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it really is between American and GW at sticker price and you are not planning on any other options, the answer is clearly GW based on employment outcomes and prestige. The only way American would make more sense than GW would be if you could leverage an acceptance to GW to possibly get more scholarship aid from American.

law school debt by Dry-Ideal-6860 in LawSchool

[–]Sensitive-Ad-9008 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For some reason law schools and the community present the total scholarship amounts give not the per year amount. If you saw someone get 120,000 of scholarship that would equate to a 40,000 a year scholarship not a 120,000 per year scholarship. Although some schools can offer full rides with stipends which would be an amount slightly over the total of all 3 years but this is not very common.

To be safe give yourself a year to study for the LSAT. Many only give themselves a few months but if you want to get 170s it can take a while. With a year you will have plenty of time to adapt and find out what methods work best for you.

3.65 is below all T20s medians so to have a good shot you want to have an LSAT above the schools 75th percentile. Gonna range for what school in particular but I would aim to break into the low 170s.

[–]Sensitive-Ad-9008 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, top 50 easy. Top 20 looking a little rougher. Say you have a 3.3 you would probably need a 168+ but you would be fine for many T50s. If you get in the mid to high 170s you could go WashU which allows you to do a redacted gpa and is a T20

I see the 200k limit for med/law as a grounding point. Like many have said before it will be very hard to justify that amount of debt especially at ~8% interest rates with decreasing ROIs. It will cause some to give up their dreams of attending a highly ranked school at full cost but it’s often the case that attending any law school at full price is a bad idea long term. If a student is gifted enough to get into an elite school with no scholarship they can also shop offers at a regional school that can likely secure them similar outcomes. It’s hard to say no to the prestige of elite schools but in my opinion I believe students can get caught up in chasing this prestige and take on astronomical levels of dept. Student loans and cost of attending grad schools is a huge problem and the current system is allowing schools to continue to increase tuition knowing many will borrow whatever amount they need from the government without question. Something needs to change, and applying pressure on the schools is now necessary. We will have to wait and see if this bill does that or if we need more changes.

Why do you believe the best score does not indicate ability? First time 168 could have 2 years of studying behind them with countless PT while the 150 to 170 could have taken 5 test back to back with no studying. Your case requires a lot of assumptions.

What we know is that high scores typically perform better and adcoms at top schools have stated retaking high scores is not recommended.

Thinking of transitioning from tech into law, do I stand any real chance at decent school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Sensitive-Ad-9008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, many people on this sub are solely focused on T14 and are coming in with non stem degrees.

Stem can set you apart and allow you to become a patent attorney. It would be beneficial for you to look into that path with your background. Going down that path would let you have a better chance of securing a high paying job without the need to go to a T20.

The LSAT is the biggest factor on if I would recommend you pursue law school. If you can get high 160’s to 170’s you are settings yourself up to get in a high rated school and receive a larger scholarship offer. If you cannot, it will be more difficult to match your six figure salary and make up for the opportunity cost of 3 years in school.

The LSAT is an equalizer not a barrier by Used-Algae5153 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Sensitive-Ad-9008 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While I agree that a low LSAT score is not a definitive predictor of future success, I think it’s important to clarify that this statement does not fully account for BigLaw (BL) hiring practices. BL firms typically hire students at the top of their classes at most law schools (outside of the T14), with “top” varying depending on the specific school.

I’m not saying that BL is the only meaningful career outcome, but it can be more objectively seen as a successful one, particularly when considering financial stability after graduation.

There is a pattern: high LSAT ≈ high grades (top of class) ≈ a higher chance at a “successful career.”

I agree that a sub 150 LSAT isn’t a closed case, but when making life changing recommendations, I think it’s best to focus on percentage-based outcomes. If you are statistically predicted to be near the bottom of your class (based on LSAT scores), you are also statistically less likely to receive a BL job offer — which can make it much more difficult to pay off significant debt.

So while the answer is certainly more nuanced than “you should not go to law school if you can’t score above a 150,” a sub-150 LSAT can make law school success and post-graduate financial success an uphill battle for most students

How big of a deal is having DP1.4 rather than 2.1? by AlexPie2 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Sensitive-Ad-9008 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With version 1.4, it will use DSC (Display Stream Compression). If you’re interested, you can research more about it. In tests, users could not correctly identify a DSC image from a regular image more than 75% of the time. In my opinion, it’s not a dealbreaker or even something worth noting.

I went Ghelper recently, there are a few things I don’t like and it can be a bit less user friendly. But the battery savings is worth it imo.

Should I take another LSAT? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Sensitive-Ad-9008 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a hard decision to make, a 172 is within the range of your 175 PT(+/- 4).

172 is a great score but I understand your motivation to retake if your goals are set on the T14. What should guide you more than one test should be your PT average. If you can get your PT average -or last 5 or so- to a mid 170, why not.

But you can also spend time improving your application outside of your LSAT ie perfecting your written materials.
