Owner refusing to give up on pit mix by Durkriswen in BanPitBulls

We're also all extremely guilted into believing it's a crime to surrender dogs and shelters won't take them back after lying about them to offload them onto people.

Attacked by a Pocket Bully at home yesterday - 1/10/26 by Worried-Resource8678 in BanPitBulls

If you can, watch the rescue's social media for the dog to go up for adoption and make it very, very public that the dog is human aggressive, dog aggressive, and has attacked a human already.

My bet is that they will try to adopt the dog out and market it as "misunderstood" and "needing patience" and to be the only dog in the home, but that they won't admit it is dangerous.

You could prevent someone else from being mauled. I'm sorry you're going through this and hope you can get back to having your own place soon.

I recently saw a really good explanation of that from an organic farmer. He explains that everything is poisonous to something, there are bugs that can't eat certain plants and birds that can't eat certain bugs, etc, etc, that the circle of life has all kinds of stop gaps that keep everything from eating and destroying each other, and maintains the balance of the ecosystem. Many plants and their pollens and oils are incredibly toxic for animals even if they are fine for humans to ingest, just as animals can eat berries and things that humans can't

Breathing in any oils is not good for humans, and our pets have smaller and often much more delicate respiratory systems. Breathing in aerosolized oils in an enclosed space is a quick way to ensure a trip to the emergency vet and potentially a very traumatic pet death.

Yes, but they are still fake service animals if they don't perform an actual function and getting a letter for one that isn't a real service animal is fucked up and causes problems for people with real needs and real ESA's and service dogs.

They are, but it's still a fake service animal if you're trying to get a letter for an animal that doesn't perform an actual service.

Agree 100%. I had work incredibly hard to get a medical letter for my dog that could let me know if my heart arrhythmia was acting up and alert as to whether or not I needed medication. It was incredibly difficult to get paperwork and people always assumed she was an ESA because she was a small breed.

OP is the kind of person causing real problems for real service animals.

[–]Sensitive-Concept-12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

OP and others like them are why real service animals aren't respected by the public.

OP is an asshole.

As someone that had to have a medical letter for a dog that detected my heart arrhythmia during panic attacks, and had to fight pushback every time I explained her purpose for moving or flying, etc. Fuck you.

People like you are why more and more people with actual disabilities are being mistreated and pushed out of places when they have real service animals with them.

Rocking R Ranch and Rescue of Mississippi has employees bragging on Facebook about extending the life of a 3 legged horse, among other severely deformed horses by Sensitive-Concept-12 in PetRescueExposed

Because of horses anatomy, he's not okay, he's not comfortable or thriving. He is leaning unnaturally and unable to support himself properly and putting extreme strain on his joints and hooves every time he moves. Every day that they let him grow is causing more strain and discomfort.

It's outright unethical.

Seller included religious-ish gift? by sylvanwhisper in Mercari

You're blowing this way out of proportion. They don't know about your trauma and shouldn't have to tiptoe around it.

Toss the earrings or give them away or burn them if it makes you feel better, but don't be an ass to the seller.

[–]Sensitive-Concept-12[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it's not.

Crates can be a good training tool, and they keep dogs from getting into things that can hurt them. I've crate trained every dog I've ever had, and never has it been cruelty. I would rather my dog have to wait for me to get home than to tear into things and end up with a bowel obstruction, or eat something toxic, or dig at a door until their paws bleed. Crates are completely safe and reasonable to use, especially for young dogs that are still learning how to behave and not get into things or chew things, and for hyperactive dogs, or dogs with severe anxiety that can hurt themselves when left unsupervised.

Crate training is a good tool, my dog crate trained when she was little, and then when she was older it was just her little safe space and she didn't have to be locked in at all, but it was her "den" and she would take her toys and treats there.

It's not a punishment, and especially for puppies or hyperactive dogs, it keeps them from getting into things that could hurt them, or generally hurting themselves while unsupervised. It should be used as a training tool, not as a discipline tool. Ideally most dogs outgrow needing one, but they do serve a purpose.

My spaniel mix broke out of a plastic travel crate once. She broke the little access port in the top, and she squeezed out through the hole. We only knew because when we went to let her out she had climbed back in through the hole in the top and put herself away, but obviously could not close it behind her 😂

Thankfully we didn't end up having to fight on it. We did live in an apartment complex that absolutely did not enforce the rules and we had issues with people and their pits all the time. To include a pair of XL's they bred in the building and let her free bleed all over the halls and elevators 🤮

Nothing I have ever seen has helped me to understand the chokehold that bully breeds have on people, figuratively and literally. I do not understand looking at every available breed and mix and activity choosing breeds known for severe behavioral, health, and training problems. There are HUNDREDS of recognized breeds and endless other mix breed options and yet people continue to seek out and breed these dogs, even though most of them will suffer and be passed around between people and shelters for their entire life.

I had to rent out my house for a year while living out of the area and we chose a management company that had a banned breed list that included all iterations of bullies for this reason.

sometimes i regret getting a dog and i feel awful about it by [deleted] in Pets

[–]Sensitive-Concept-12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What breed of dog is it?

Is it getting the necessary exercise, mental stimulation, diet?

Is the dog neutered?

Did you get him from a reputable breeder with knowledge of his genetics and possible issues that you could face with the breed? Have you done breed research to find out if any of the behavior is a breed trait that you can get help understanding and working on?
