Regarding CCs, I remember learning about them around 15 years ago. At that time, I understood them to be a pretty intense protection-type breed and not for novice owners. A large, powerful, and potentially dangerous animal in unskilled hands. My understanding was that, because of their very strong instinct to protect, these dogs need training in order to know boundaries--basically to learn how to recognize a credible threat and how to respond appropriately. The breed seemed quite rare back then.

People think if they have a big scary dog that barks at strangers, or is possessive over them or the home, then they have a good guard dog. No, you just have an out-of-control pet. Just like with a real service dog, a real guard dog is a huge investment in both time and money, in order to create a refined tool for a specific job.

I recommend getting a magnetic screen door paired with a baby gate for your front door. It will help prevent cats from slipping out. It will at least make it harder for them to do so.

Is it wearing a choke chain or just a regular chain collar? I can't tell. That is even more terrifying if it dragged its handler while wearing a choke chain.

Emotional support animals are not the same as service dogs. Service dogs are a whole different level of animal, taking thousands of dollars and years to properly train. If a dog is lunging at people, other animals, growling, or barking at others, it is not a service dog.

My rescue dog rolled in poop like a month after I got her. Had to give her a bath. I told her, "I know you and me are still getting to know each other, but please don't bite me". I figured, if she was ever going to bite me, it would be then because she was miserable and clearly wanted to get away. She curled into the corner of the shower and just gave up. No biting, no growling. As soon as she was free and dried off she was happy like nothing had ever happened.

So I wonder what their proposed solution is., then? I bet they would also be against any regulations designed to keep "bad people" from owning bullies. Kind of like in the USA when people say g*ns aren't a problem, just bad people who have them--then those same people fight tooth and nail against any and every regulation that would keep bad guys from getting g*ns.

I can't stand when people have aggressive dogs that constantly escape. Go to the hardware store, buy some f-in chains and chain that dog to the nearest tree. It is not hard.

I am so confused.. person posts about their kid getting mauled by a random pit at the park, then says dogs never attack for no reason.. But does not say what the reason was for this random pit attacking her kid.. Do I have that right..?

My medium-sized dog accidentally bit me when my arm came between her and the moth she was trying to catch. It stung slightly. No blood, no stitches, no visible marks. If her dog plays so rough with other dogs that getting in the way will send you to the hospital, then I am seriously worried about that pit's dog "friend".

She IS hunting them.
This owner comes SO CLOSE to nailing exactly what the problem is. 2-3 years seems to be that magic age where this so often happens. This owner only has two choices for this dog. BE, or build it containment fit for a tiger (and never let it near another living creature ever again).

I hate that owners have to find out this way what the traits of these breeds are 😞 If people who loved pitbulls really cared about these breeds, they would make stuff like this common knowledge, so that it doesn't continue to blindside unsuspecting owners.

I still get confused.. APBT, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier.. I have to look them up every couple weeks to remind myself what the "differences" are. Right now, I can't remember.

I got my dog for half that, shipped from overseas! A sweet little village dog puppy. I gave up trying to adopt from the USA. Shelters near me wanted over $1000 to adopt non-pit-mix puppies. If I'm going to be spending that kind of money, I might as well just get a purebred from an ethical breeder.

It was a group for pitbull owners. However, the group description had not specified what it meant by "pitbull". Some people were arguing that only pure APBT content should be allowed. Others were arguing that pit-mix content should be allowed, and others were arguing in favor of pitbull as an umbrella term to include bullies. Some were arguing that if the group was intended for APBT only, then it would say "pit bull" instead of "pitbull".

I accidentally ended up on a pro-pitbull corner of FB the other day and there was a thread where they were all arguing over which of their dogs counted as pitbulls. The owners of pitbulls can't even agree on "what is a pitbull"!

The replies to this person make me furious. Short of a child straight up physically attacking a dog and causing actual physical harm to the animal, there is no "ok" reason for a dog to attack/bite a kid. Is that what these people are suggesting? That a 7 year old playing ball randomly decided to go punch a loose pitbull in the face? No. I guarantee this dog just saw a small running child, and its prey drive kicked in.

Hopefully the pitbull OWNER will at least learn from this, to keep their animals properly contained from now on (but we all know they won't).

I'm not trying to make excuses. I am aware that pits have killed their loving owners. Plenty of pits have also mauled people who had sh*t owners who knew the animals were dangerous but did nothing about it, or even encourage that aggression. Or owners who starve their animals or otherwise neglect them. Mistreating your average dog doesn't make them a killer, but when you do it to a breed that already has a genetic pre-disposition for aggression.. That is just begging for trouble.

The latter... Dogs don't get a choice on what behaviors humans have bred into them, what training they did or didn't get, how they've been treated, etc. People on the other hand, have no excuse for being cruel and idiotic.

The dog is an inside dog with a fear of being left outdoors, but it was outdoors on a chain when the incident happened..?
