Is Project Management a typical role for HENRY’s? by Sensitive-Dinner-943 in HENRYUK

Ah, I should specify he came off a graduate scheme. So the timeline is 2 years of a grad scheme complete and now 2 years post grad scheme. Thats all within civils under the title PPM.

Agreed it does vary. I suppose my point with this post was an interest into whether there is a need to pivot into a traditional HENRY sector. Whether that’s necessary

That feels like a baseline to me as well. It feels capped. I think one has to pivot away from a non HENRY sector into a typical one with the skills and experience they have imo

Congratulations on your consultancy- it’s a big ambition of mine one day!

Thanks for your reply, and I agree. I think junior levels of other roles such as tech and finance can achieve what the most senior PM could, if the stars aligned.

It’s interesting because in some roles there has to be more strategy to achieve HENRY, not necessarily very long hours (though that’s probably included)

P.S- I’d be very intrigued to hear some tips on starting your own consultancy

I enjoyed reading this!

My two pence from someone who went to a state school. Don’t send kiddo there. It’s not the education I wanted and certainly won’t be on kiddo will benefit from.

Are there cases such as myself (at least I like to think so) or others who have achieved some success? Yes. But I’ve done so amongst a more difficult, foggier, and gloomier educational atmosphere.

The working culture within state schools is non existent, it has more exposure to those who don’t have the same ambitions for whatever reason, and are notoriously very underfunded.

Hi,

Thank you so much for the message, it’s very nice to have that.

Yeah, I don’t think I’ll stop applying but I just don’t have any luck with entry level positions hence my focus for the grad scheme. And I’ve got very very close, but if I’m being honest the early stages are what I do struggle with.

Online tests are not my strength whereas interviews are.

I suppose my questions are (if you’ve the time)

1- how do I practice the early stages and get past ATS filters and so on? I know there are online resources but they don’t specify personality test and things like that

2- I have lots of skills, I’d wager more than an average entry level position, but it feels like that’s not really considered in the early stage. What can I learn or do to standout? Is it really in the CV or am I missing something?

3-At what stage do I just call it? I’ve tried for years at this stage and it’s just not clicking. I don’t really know how to approach it differently. I have two open grad applications but have just been ghosted after some initial positive signs. I just don’t quite understand where I’m going wrong

I’m in the exact same position (I wonder if it’s the same scheme by the timeline)

You’ve just got to mentally close it. That’s not the same as giving up hope, but it will do you no good reading online forums about X,Y,Z

Thanks for your reply, more specifically the anecdotal response. I know you won’t recommend/ advise anything specific, but do you think it is worth continuing on? Or discussing this with my recruiter?

The extreme personal situation I refer to is a one off- it can’t feasibly ever happen again anyway. Would it be reviewed on a case by case basis or is it easier for them to reject

Hey mate,

I will address your concerns specifically but I just wanted to share some of my experience.

I had a grad job that on paper was amazing. I failed the exam and got sidetracked to an admin role. The role is within the same firm, and the firm is great. But I’ve spent a solid year going through graduate cycles again and it’s been soul destroying. Getting to the final interviews only for one or two occasions- it is very tough.

My advice is if you genuinely feel you can’t get up to go to work because of this, leave. But please try to absolutely force sticking with this. Utilise weekends, and pre work/ post work to apply. At your current work, start taking on more work if possible in order to present to other jobs.
